Brooks Williams

Postby Richard + Jela » Wed Apr 02, 2008 1:06 pm

PS I'm going to start a Brooks Williams thread

Monday evening was the second time we had seen Brooks Williams even though we have most of his CDs going back a good number of years. Last time was about 15 months ago when he was the support and we'd gone to the concert to see him rather than the main act.

At that time we said to ourselves that the hosts 'Acoustic Sussex' ought to bring him back as the main act and luckily for us they did. On Monday he performed to a very good crowd and his guitar playing just transfixed us - he was awesome. He has a lovely voice too and on CD sometimes reminds me of James Taylor's singing voice (another long time hero of mine)

I know that BW is based in Massachusetts and plays quite extensively so fortunately for us he's comimg back to the UK in May and we'll be going to see him again.......probably at TwickFolk where Ellis played in the UK.

Highly, highly recommended.

I have a favorite Brooks Williams song from the only CD of his I own but for the life of me I can't remember the song title right now.....

If you could help out Jela......

I'd say it was as close to a radio friendly hit song as Brook had out at the time and likely where I heard him first and was stopped in my tracks.

His live show playing mesmorized the crowd I was in, too. 8)

Can easily second the high recommendation, here.

Knife Edge was the one I was playing in the car on Sunday just to remind myself of him - how spooky is that?

I like 'Rotterdam Bar' it's so catchy and has amusing sentiments in it

"Some people are born to make great art and others are born to appreciate it. It is a kind of talent in itself, to be an audience, whether you are the spectator in the gallery or you are listening to the voice of the world's greatest soprano. Not everyone can be the artist. There have to be those who witness the art, who love and appreciate what they have been privileged to see." -- Ann Patchett in Bel Canto.

Thanks for the 'heads up'. If I'm in on Saturday I shall be listening to it.

If you get a chance, see him live and then be blown away by his dexterity with a guitar.
