Thanks for playing........who's next to try?

This is a person. Good luck.

She goes town to town
For the reliable sound
Can't get enough, wow!

Don't think to hard on this one folks, for to my knowledge it's not to be found in an Ellis Paul song or lyric, necessarily....But you never know.

Am I right?

In my best impersonation of a frenchman:

but of course

Way to go girls....and my count is indeed 167.

In my dreams.

I'm going to try something a little different here this morning just to see if you guys have been paying close attention to an artist close to Ellis but not him. This is a little off topic I know, with apologies. It's just that I am surprised there has been little mention of this not so hidden nod to the past.

So, this haiku answer is a 3 parter.

Name the artist

Name the song title

Name the person that I believe to be referenced in the song.

Of course, I could be totally wrong again which could render this whole thing irrelevant. I don't think I am and my wife agrees with me. And THAT'S saying something...........here goes:

My song pays homage
To the one from way down South
Gone, not forgotten

Have fun and can't wait for the reveal....

Ahhh, I almost have a haiku ready to go, but I haven't a clue about this one...I have trouble enough within the limits of EP songs.

Tough one Paddy, as with only 17 syllables and a wide open terrain your haiku could successfully be answered by:

Freddie Mercury / Crazy Little Thing Called Love / Elvis Presley
(among many others, including Allanah Myles/Black Velvet, John Gorka/That's Why, Emmylou Harris/Boy From Tupelo........)
Don Mclean / American Pie / Buddy Holly
Jackson Browne / Of Missing persons / Lowell George
Bette Midler / The Rose / Janis Joplin
Kris Kristofferson / To Beat the Devil / Johnny Cash

Any way it could be one of those, or one of a hundred others.... care to let us know, or at least give me a much bigger hint ?

Back to the original haiku thread to give Sue Ellen ;) a chance to answer and get her haiku out. Guidelines are that the haiku needs to describe a character (which could be a person, or the singer, or a critical object, such as the Pistol in Autobiography of a Pistol) from an Ellis Paul song. Let's try to answer the one in play if we can before getting a new one going.

Could not stay the same
Needed to fall to rise up
To a girl or pearl

An easy one to get back on track :)

Paddy's artist must be Antje Duvekot; song seems like it could be Pearls, but it's been a while since I've heard it.

Song also could be Anna, about Antje's grandmother; even though it is set in the south, Antje's grandmother was from Germany. I think she tells a story about the song on one of her two earlier CD's.

Bono crossed my mind as well, Pride (In the Name of Love) in tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King. Could also be MLK, also in tribute of Dr. King.

Now on to Jeff's haiku.
"...I implore you, I entreat you, I challenge you to speak with conviction, to say what you believe, in a manner that bespeaks the determination with which you believe it, because contrary to the wisdom of the bumper sticker, it is not enough these days to "question" authority, you have to speak with it, too."

Sue, of course you have nailed both the song and the artist.

Jeff, you have nailed the one not forgotten, although your list is long.

Combine these hints and we'll be there.

Where? Somewhere near Port Authur, Texas I'd guess!

That's the hint of the century.

Well that kind of gives it all away....... Antje / Pearls / Janis

Okay Sue Ellen - or anyone else - back to the Ellis Haiku now.....

Paddy - the Port Arthur thing really kind of clinched it......

You are incorrect on both of your guesses.

Just noticed that I was clever enough to work "Pearl" into my Haiku, before I even knew the answer to Paddy's..... and yes that might be a hint.....

Well Ricky (aka Paddy), Sweet Mistakes happens to be one of my all time favorite songs, AND I just went through a time when I was quoting one of 3 different sections of it in all my letters. Quotes that included crumbling down to ones knees, walking in Paradise to find a pearl, change being just what one needed... Oh, and then there is my signature, too!
:D
And I have to say - I love me my sudoku!

Ahh, I was too slow on the uptake; here's my guess:

Robert Wilson in 3000 miles.

It is absolutely Robert Wilson from Eau Claire Wisconsin aboard the Greyhound Bus for 14 days in the song 3,000 Miles. How great is that song?

I'll never forget moving to a new town and meeting a guy who introduces himself as guess who? Yep, Robert Wilson. :D

Yee haw.

Okay:

Seeking soul, travels
Alone, solitude life ends
Poison'd by hunger

Probably very easy, but my best effort.

Is it Chris McCandless?

I'm really sorry that the Ballad of CM didn't make the final cut of what I call 'Essensual Ellis'

Here's an ez one to get the day started.

Not a song title nor lyric nor character inside.

Though one may beg to differ at times.

Paddy - it would probably help if it stayed within the boundaries of a character or object from an Ellis Paul song...... From your post I can't tell how open ended this one is, except that it's not a character from an Ellis Paul song, so I really don't know where to start guessing :)

I haven't kept up with the Haiku thread (or most others) for the last 12 days, but please do keep the Haikus within the parameters of an Ellis Paul person, place or thing. I don't want to have to get my whip out now (damn! I could have finally used that emoticon from the old board!)
