I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you can come to Pittsburgh for a book signing so I can chauffeur you around! :)

Congratulations Monica!!! Can't wait to get this one into the house. My son, an only child, just asked last night for a puppy, on account of he's an only child and often has noone to play with. He was near tears as he stated his case.

I just picked up a copy of "The Black Panties" at Barnes and Noble. I sat in my car in the parking lot and pulled it out, intending to read the first few pages to get a feel for it. I couldn't stop reading and had to force myself to put it down when I reached the end of the first chapter. Monica writes so smoothly and well, spinning a page-turning tale not just with great visuals, but masterfully weaving in descriptions of touch, sound, and emotion as well.

The back cover describes the book this way:
Told with tenderness and wit The Black Panties--Tales of Animal Mischief and Veterinary Intrigue include the stories of a young veterinarian starting her career in the small-town foothills of New Hampshire's spectacular White Mountains.

Filled with fascinating stories of animal cases and their owners, the compilation's common thread of love and compassion is weaved throughout these pages.

You go girl!!

BIG CONGRATULATIONS MONICA... I can't wait to get this book and a few copies for some family members. Not only are we a family of music lovers but dog (animal)lovers as well. A total of 7 dogs between 3 siblings on my husband's side, 8 dogs a couple of cats, fish, lizards, birds and 1 guinea pig on my side.

While I was typing this I just heard my daughter say...
"that is one happy looking fish in there" I asked "how can you tell," she said "I just know." physic I guess!!

Wow, you all!!!
I am amazed and very appreciative of your support and wonderful words! Thank you so much. There's such fulfillment we get from our love of the animals in our lives and the effect they have on us. I'm thrilled to have been given the opportunity by my publisher to put this out there. My favorite chapters are actually later in the book, perhaps chapter 8.

Patti, that's quite a menagerie. Paddy, I remember feeling like your son when I was young!

Thank you everyone, again, it means a lot to me.

Folks,

There was a terrific review of the book in a recent Worcester-Telegram:

Excellent review; I like that the author of the article pointed out that this is a "multi-layered narrative;" not just tales about the animals.

Great photo too, that's a cat and a half. But who's the hot young chick holding it?

thanks, guys! I really appreciate all the great vibes and for your reading it!!! It's been thrilling to have the opportunity for the book to happen.

(Sue Ellen....I strategically placed my cat to cover the part in my shirt that I burned with the iron as I was rushing around on the way to wear it to a recent show...there are certain fabrics that should never be ironed:))

Hey Monica-

I wanted to let you know that you book was my reading material on my recent vacation! Very, enjoyable. I look forward to the next book of great stories!

I must say it was fun to say "I know the author" when folks asked "what are you reading?"

I just finished it!!

Great job Monica. I really enjoyed the stories. I will admit, it never occured to me that the subjects might not make it through their adventures. Each time it happened, it was like a personal loss for me, but that is just a testament to your storytelling skills.

I also got a kick out of the music references, since I know you not as a vet, but as a music lover.

Yes, Monica revealed every girl's fantasy: who wouldn't want to sing a duet with Bono Vox? Yes, I do believe he used to have a last name.

Thanks for reading it! I know how hard it is to fit time into schedules for anything extra. I'm really happy that you enjoyed it.
The music references would certainly include a whole additional group of fellas and gals if written about current times....hmmm, who could I be talking about? Next volume, I guess!

Monica,

I think you should specialize in caring for the pets of folk musicians. Then you could write Volume 2 and title it: Pink baby-doll t-shirts: tales of animal mischief and folk music intrigue. ;)

A sure best-seller! :)

Too funny Karen.. a must read for sure....

And on a sad note... one of the pets a family member had to be put down this week. The (indoor ) cat got let out by mistake and was missing for a few days.. she was found and brought to the vets, they tried a number of life saving techniques but she didn't seem to respond.

I don't look forward to that (eventual) day when that decision has to be made, especially how sad it will be for my kids.

Oh someday I will share a sad, but happy ending story about my family dog growing up!!

Monica,

Have you ever thought about specialising in musicians' pets? I'm sure that is a niche market yet to be explored. Or exploited if you will. :P
