Fanning Out on the Internet to Promote Essentials
Hey y'all--
We are creating this Forum to allow a place to discuss promotional activity for fans of my music.
Here's a way to get empowered to spread the word for the Essentials album.
The web is probably the most important way to spread non commercial music around the world. You can help by doing the following with Essentials, then come back here and let people know where they can chime in.
1) OTHER DISCUSSION SITES FOR ACOUSTIC SONGWRITERS, -- there are numerous discussion groups around the web regarding songwriters. Myspace, aol, THE FOLK LIST, THE DJ LIST, ETC all have chat places on this kind of music. Please leave reviews, and let us know when you find a place.
2) SONGWRITER'S DISCUSSION BOARDS... like mineded artists like Neil Young, Bob Dyaln, John Gorka, Bill Morrissey, Patty Griiffin, Dar williams, Jonatha Brooke, Richard Shindell, all your favorite songwriters have discussion boards, you an drop a line there, or start a discussion thread about why the music matters. Pick your favorites and run with it, and come back an tell us where you have been. So others can comment on your thread, Let us know where you've posted!
3) COMMERCIAL MUSIC SITES ON THE WEB...
Amazon.cbabyom, cd , MTV.com, CMT.com, etc., commercial sites that sell music or promote muscians have places to leave reviews, go find them, and let us know where you've posted!
4) Banners... I have no idea how to set these up so fans could post them on their sites, does anyone know how to make one? We could post here for those that wanted to use it... Let me know...
Start a myspace page and use your favorite song as the soundtrack to your site.
Let us know what you have done out on the net, provide us with links to where you've been.
and thanks for helping out!

Even though you neglected to mention your neighbors Ellis, here you go: EDHEAD CENTRAL
Although that's a REALLY QUIET board, so I don't know how much good it's going to do; I mean they have only a little more than a thousand articles versus close to three and a half thousand here, but it's a something.

Ellis,
Mark Erelli has a nice nod to Ellis Paul Essentials on his web site. That's one place we don't have to worry about.

Folks,
I just left a review of Ellis Paul Essentials at Amazon.com - it's only one of two there. Please take a few minutes to leave a review and report back as Ellis suggested. I'm sure he would appreciate the feedback.
Here's a link to the Amazon.com listing:

Folks,
I'm actually feeling a little discouraged by the lack of response in this thread. I was certain a few of you would report back as Ellis suggested. Is it the word "review" that is scaring you? If so, is "comments" easier to handle? Could a few of you please simply rate the CD and post a two sentence comment on Amazon? (I said please.) There's still only two reviews there. The man is so generous with his time and is incredibly giving (guest passes, CD giveaways, etc.) Please take a few minutes to give back via this small grassroots effort.

This was the message from Amazon:
In general, reviews are posted on our site within one day, but occasionally it takes longer.
But it posted right away. I think for me the trepedation was related to how public that site is. But I took the plunge.

Karen.....thanks for the nudge...and the smile ya brought to my face just now. Had a rough day today and troubles had just begun to subside when I saw this Battle Of The Sexes brewing....
I have yet to order my copy of Essentials....
Not that I need to.....I can still come thru for the cause based on what I know about the songs that make up Ellis Paul Essentials.
I still think I'll hold off on a review until I have it in house.
Note to self.......Gotta Get Gone...gotta get going.. hey hey the world.....
Til then...watch my back fellas......

Wendy,
First of all - thanks for submitting a review!
To post a URL:
1. Click the URL icon on the code bar (the code bar icons are just below the subject line box) to "open" the code.
2. Type your URL (make sure to include the http://)
3. Click on the URL icon a second time to "close" the code.
Or you can type the code yourself ( to open and to close) the code. It's really quite simple. Honest.

Paddy,
According to Merriam-Webster Online disc is a variant of disk. I believe either is acceptable. Feel free to use either when you write your review.

MonicaR,
Thanks for the heads-up about Barnes & Noble. I added the B&N link to your post and submitted a review there myself as well! (It says it may take up to 3 days for reviews to appear so right now there's still zero reviews viewable.)
Here's the link folks:

Are you sure ?
Anyway, the boys are on the scoreboard. I'd also like to point out that at least one of the boys has been buying the CD through Amazon, hoping to give it a nudge in the Amazon charts. I like CD Freedom just fine; I am just hoping to see Ellis's CD make the Amazon charts at some point - the retrospective makes a great Christmas gift idea !

I fear I am at a slight disadvantage here, especially when y'all get to double-count - looks like I am going to have to be a little more "inventive"....

Jeff,
Nice review you posted on Amazon! Sadly, none of your counterparts of the male persuasion have shown up (on either Amazon or Barnes&Noble) to bolster the men's score.
The score remains:
Ladies 9
Gents 1
Ladies, shall we continue to blow the gents out of the water? C'mon.....just a sentence or two....

"Some people are born to make great art and others are born to appreciate it. It is a kind of talent in itself, to be an audience, whether you are the spectator in the gallery or you are listening to the voice of the world's greatest soprano. Not everyone can be the artist. There have to be those who witness the art, who love and appreciate what they have been privileged to see." -- Ann Patchett in Bel Canto.

Sounds good, and is there a way to post a review on cdfreedom? I looked but didn't see an avenue...maybe we should do Starbucks too.

Here's the post for Borders, but a quick glance did not reveal a place to review:

Thanks for checking on Borders Sue Ellen. Surprising that there's no place to post a review...

OK.....I throw myself on the mercy of the board when I confess that I have yet to buy Essentials. Like Paddy suggested, I'm sure I could bluff my way through by commenting on the songs that remained the same from the original recordings, but that seems wrong. Perhaps I'll venture out on a nasty, torrentially rainy night to finally purchase the disc, or perhaps even the disk! And then one more of the guys will be represented at Amazon!

Awesome Jeff! See? I knew our collective brains could come up with ideas!
I just noticed that the All Music Guide entry for Ellis Paul is woefully outdated. Do we have a volunteer willing to submit some updates for the discography there?
Here's the link. At the bottom of the page you have to click where it says Corrections to this entry? to make corrections/additions.

Pete - Essentials is wonderfully inexpensive at Amazon - and buying it there will give it a kick up on the Amazon sales ticker..... which could help as well.

I'm sensing a bit of rabbit and the hare here...or is it turtle and the hare???
Whatever it is...we're behind guys....let's head 'em and up move 'em out.
Well, it was either the Texas cattle drive reference or this:
C'mon, guys....let's act like HEINZ and ketchup!!!

Folks,
Yay! Patti posted a review on Amazon so the score is now:
Ladies 10
Gents 1
I don't know Jeff.....none of your counterparts are coming to your rescue...not sure what it will take to get them to support our raison d'etre.
