PBS' American Masters Series - No Direction Home: Bob Dylan

Postby KarenZ » Mon Jun 26, 2006 9:07 am

Folks,

Looks like many PBS stations will be repeating Martin Scorsese's Dylan documentary No Direction Home starting June 28. You can check to see when it will air in your area at the link below. If you missed it last fall when it first aired, don't miss it again. Although, Paddy, it's also available on DVD.

"Some people are born to make great art and others are born to appreciate it. It is a kind of talent in itself, to be an audience, whether you are the spectator in the gallery or you are listening to the voice of the world's greatest soprano. Not everyone can be the artist. There have to be those who witness the art, who love and appreciate what they have been privileged to see." -- Ann Patchett in Bel Canto.

I'm thinking of making my own documentary and calling it:

No Connection Home

I still have no cable in the house.

No worries, tho.

Disc 1 of Bruce Springsteen Live In NYC early this morning was amazing.

Thanks for thinking of me, Karen.

Cool, maybe he'll play the Philly folk fest at summer's end.

Jackson Browne is confirmed to play the festival.

I hear Bob Dylan is a dj on satellite radio.

For diehard fans of Bob Dylan there is a DVD out there:

World Tour 1966 - The Home Movies

The reviews on Amazon were mixed....seems it for diehard fans mostly.
The rub was that it's for the most part the story of Mickey Jones joining up
with Dylan and "THE BAND" for the first world tour he embarked upon after
having gone 'electric'. It's Mickey Jones' story...not so much Bob's.
Mickey hosts and narrates the whole show and his habit of carrying an 8mm camera with him everywhere provides footage to go along with his story.

While I'd never rush out to buy anything like this...it was being promo'd
on our cable tv package thru the On Demand feature.....so it was free.

It's in two parts.....each 45 minutes in duration. I was too young to know of Dylan during this time, dabbled in a bit of fandom in high school, and have since moved pretty far away from his music and career. The story
of Dylan going electric and being booed by fans everywhere is one I find interesting. The story of Mickey Jones drumming career that leads up to being asked by Dylan to join the band is also rather interesting.

It's likely available for free viewing if you have Comcast Cable.
Took a bit of searching for me to find it......so good luck there.

If you enjoy old home movie footage from the 60's....and are even a little
bit aware of what happened when Bob Dylan traded his acoustic guitar for a Tele-caster.......I think you'll enjoy this telling of the tale.
