Haiku revisited

I have a hankering for some Haiku. :wink: Do we dare see if we can break our previous Haiku record? I think we had close to 200 posts on our old Haiku thread.

To recap: Haiku is a form of traditional Japanese poetry. Haiku is a 17-syllable verse form consisting of three metrical units of 5, 7, and 5 syllables.

That said, our mission is to post a Haiku that describes a person, place or thing in an Ellis Paul song. Let's guess the answer to one Haiku before moving on to another.

We'll start with a really easy one. :)


My life is loose ends
But time stands still when I whirl
Step through my black hole

Paddy - you nailed the song - I think I left enough clues there. It is of course the singer in the song "Seven" which is moving up my list of favorites. I'm working on yours - too many choices right now......

Are you kidding me? The first try!!! I was totally guessing on memory
of that fine song. I think it was the word that [numbered] that had me thinking 7 . And of of course old love[ 2nd line ]

Anyway, wow, I'm stoked.

Not sure if mine is done the right way.
I was not in on the first haiku thread that reached 200 posts.

Will see in the morning?

Ask for a rewrite if necessary guys......or clues

I like Karen's suggestion too. I was in the process of creating and posting mine when Jeff snuck his in there. I was surprised to see his when I FINALLY got mine up there.

A word to the wise - - - or at least all of you wiser than me.

I may have misunderstood this song entirely, rendering my first ever haiku for the most part null and void. Went back to the lyrics to the song and realized what may be my mistake.

I really believed that one of three people had passed. Upon further review, I'm just not sure. Ellis, if you're reading this one, a lil help.

Until then, I want to tweak my haiku just a bit. Work off either, same result.

sunny,bright, mourning alright

can't stand or think straight

Please allow me. It's short. It was my first. The legacy 2 version that is. I believe Ellis was not thrilled with the mix of this song as it appears on The Windham Hill released legacy 2. I think it was a surprise to Ellis when he heard the final version. Hey Ellis, if they were sweet mistakes, I say, God Bless Will Ackerman.

The solace of Kathy's roof top in NYC, while 60 million light bulbs(Edison's fault) allow the skyline to swallow the moon. Upon close inspection, I do in fact see myself, because this is paddyinthepub's song!

Wendy, I think your brain is working fine this morning, and that was a great guess based on the clue I gave today. I'm realizing that it's far easier to post haiku than to guess. Tho I feel like I'm leading you guys on a wild goose chase somehow, so maybe I should just give the answer and move on.

Here's another hint:

you were not far off at all. it is a song title of ellis'.

I've recently read 'Into the Wild' and thoroughly enjoyed the book which leaves you asking more questions about why people decide to 'go into the wild' - what is it that they are searching for? Perhaps they don't often know themselves what it is they are seeking.............as I mentioned on the old board Sean Penn is to direct/produce a film of the book and I shall look forward to seeing that one day.

Maybe Ellis will get the opportunity to record 'Chris McCandless' for the film? I hope so.
