Lyrics for Snow in Austin?

I have been reading this forum for about a year. This is my first posting.

I was wondering if anyone knows if the lyrics to "Snow in Austin" are posted anywhere. I thought I saw them on the website at one point.

Thanks.

Hi Barbara, Welcome to the Board. I'll let others help out with your question as I'm sure they know better than I. I know the Lyrics page are chock full of lyrics to all recorded and released Ellis Paul songs.

Just don't know where you might find Snow In Austin right now but it is on the soon to be released "Essential Ellis". If you can wait til then, the lyrics will be out there on the Lyrics Link.

Anybody else?

The original version Ellis posted...... which in his post he admitted was subject to change:

I woke up to frost on the window
I'd been sleeping in a snowglobe town
6 inches on the groundYou always said I'd never would see a white Christmas
snow angels never make it to Texas
but you were wrong
They're outside singing Hank William's songs

If snow can fall in Austin
Why can't you fall into my arms?
So you say your home is Boston
What's New England got on all these Texas charms?
tumbleweeds
dance on the ground
armadillos
upside down
have you ever seen a cactus Christmas tree?
Come see
Come home to me

There's a snowman standing out on 6th street
with a hat, a scarf, outside a blues bar
it's Stevie Ray Vaughn with a broom guitar
Remember that night at Las Monitas
Our heads were numb from frozen margaritas
Imagine how
cold they would be now

The lyrics have changed a bit. Missing is the best part!!

"Poor little guys. Upsidedown"

I believe the song is still available for download on Itunes.

Thanks for the lyrics, Jeff.

I knew someone here would have the lyrics.

I just realized that it is on the "Live at Club Passim" cd, so I guess I will hear it again on that cd. (I heard Ellis sing it live)

It wasn't until Jeff posted these lyrics that I realized that the lyrics weren't "Remember that night I lost my needles?" Las Monitas makes infinite more sense...

The true lyrics to Snow in Austin and If She's the One

Postby EllisPaul » Fri Aug 11, 2006 9:45 pm

Hey y'all...
karen and I finally figured out how to get past some posting issues for me...

Here are the lyrics to these songs, I got a kick out of some of the versions of these that y'all were posting... I guess i garble me speech a bit... Thanks for decoding If She's the One Karen, you were right on except for that pesky hummingbird that magically appeared...

If She's The One... this is a cowrite with Flynn

She'll be colorful
reliable
She'll crack a window
bringing light into your day

Her laugh
is undeniable
It's illogical
She'll let it fly
it leaves you startled,
wide awake

You'll be at a loss for words
a song without a bird
searching for something
anything to say

(Chorus)
If she's the One
the woman will shake you
with love than can break you
if you let it come undone

Your fears must be broken
Keep your heart open
The risks are unspoken
but they're worth the run
If she's the One

it's irresistable
It's impossible
not to watch her
when she walks into a room

She'll be beautiful
That's undisputable
there's a catch within her voice
and in how she moves

And if she returns your gaze
She'll turn you like a phrase
and you'll be spinning
like your drunk from the light of the moon

Chorus....

Snow in Austin... I wrote this one by myself...

I woke up to frost on the window
I'd been sleeping in a snowglobe town
Six inches on the ground
You said I'd never see a white Christmas
Snow angels never make it to Texas
But you're wrong
They're singing Hank William's songs

(Chorus)
If snow can fall in Austin
Why can't you fall into my arms?
So you say your home is Boston
What's New England got
on all these Texas charms?

Tumbleweeds
dance on the ground
Armadillos (poor little guys, on 2nd chorus)
Upside down
Have you ever seen a cactus Christmas tree?
Come see
Come home to me

There's a snowman standing out on 6th street
with a hat, a scarf, and a broom guitar
They're hanging mistletoe up in the bars

Do you remember that night at Las Monitas
Our heads were numb from frozen margaritas
Imagine how cold they would be now

Chorus... with the tag
The Snow's Coming down
It's Christmas in this town

I tookout the Stevie Ray line, it was too much to sing, and I needed a few more Christmas references... Los monitas is a great little bar/restaurant and a local hang on Congress street... huevos rancheros... gotta do that Sunday morning hangover brunch there...

thank y'all.. ellis

We have been to Las Manitas on Congress in Austin during visits to SXSW - the food is great. They hosted a show out back and served free food and drink - saw one of our faves there, Nels Andrews. He won a new folk award at Kerrville a few years ago and 'Sunday Shoes' is simple a stunning debut CD.

His new CD is 'on the stocks' and we will be catching him again when he comes over in a few months time - he's playing TwickFolk where Ellis' debuted in England (altho' they are having to use a different pub for the evening).

Karen and Ellis' posts include subject line text

Postby paddyinthepub » Sat Aug 12, 2006 11:45 am

Karen,

Noticed you and Ellis both include a short bit of text in the subject line of your posts here on this thread.
Just wondering if we can all be of help somehow by doing the same.
That is, including subject text when we post on a thread.

Thanks....... 8)

I hadn't noticed Ellis' subject line. I suspect he thought he had to type one in since it was only his 1st or 2nd post here. I simply hit "reply". Don't think it's necessary to change/add to subject line with every reply...especially when it's not displayed in the root forum, but only on the individaul post.

Now that I know I bit more about Las Monitas, I will have to make it a required stop the next time (first time?) I'm in Austin.

I have to say, the image that I conjured with the "lost needles" lyrics was a bit confusing: Ellis, with a partially finished scarf, looking everywhere for the elusive missing knitting needles, and finally giving up in desperation when [subject of song] hands him a margarita (to drink his sorrows away), thus instigating the brain freeze.
Yes, I thought it was a bit bizarre, too.

Lauren,

The "lost needles" is cracking me up. But I'm impressed on how you made it all fit. ;)

So, now that we know the proper words to sing at the shows and know when to bring Ellis a frozen margarita during his set...

WHO'S FOUND AN ARMADILLO in a SANTA hat who can serve as mascot at the New Year's Eve shows at "Club PASSION" this year???

I'm searching for one, but no joy yet! Maybe I'll get one in my christmas stocking...

"Las Monitas" had me confused for a long time. I sang made-up words, I think. Haha.
