President's Day music trivia

Postby paddyinthepub » Sun Feb 22, 2009 10:41 am

George Washington, the first president of the United States, was born on February 22, 1732.

Thought it might be fun to recall the presidents that have made it into song.....Ellis Paul's and others.

It's wide open......have fun!!! :D

I'll begin with a couple I Know by John Gorka......that was a coincidence I swear!!!

Oh Abraham -- (Lincoln and Eisenhower)
Semper Fi -- (Franklin D. Roosevelt)

I must have had 'Delivered' by Mark Erelli playing at 78 rpm......I missed that one.
Will go back and listen more closely....
Guess I should seize this opportunity to add another one......
A song I grew up listening to was the theme song on America's #1 sitcom "All in the Family"
Anybody remember Edith and Archie Bunker??? :D

Gosh, that's a trip down Memory Lane - we used to get that over here, in fact I think that it was based on a UK sitcom 'Till Death Do Us Part'

Can I include ' Cheney's Toy' by James McMurtry as it's a direct reference to George W Bush.

Saw McMurtry recently in London - his first UK tour and he played to 2 sell out crowds in London, they had such a demand for tickets that they could have sold a third night too.

Absolutely, Jela!!! :D

It's wide open!!!

First learned about Larry McMurtry's (Lonesome Dove) son James McMurtry when Robert Keen released 'Picnic' with Levelland on it ...wow!!! Keen made it his own and James has been on my radar since.

For the record I enjoyed All in the Family but not the sound of those Bunkers singing the theme.......chalkboard nails.

Those were the days.......

Going to add Ellis Paul's Bad, Bad Blood ---- Ronald Reagan

Line Em Up by James Taylor about Richard Nixon. I also think Let It Fall Down by JT was about Richard Nixon too, but after reading the lyrics it is not so clear to me... but I do believe it to be true.

I'm sure there are more, but I'll have to think about later, tonight I'll be tuning into the Oscar's... GO SLUMDOG.!! ( I saw it again last week!!)

Just in from seeing Slumdog Millionaire.......what a movie!!! :D

Line 'em Up is a great addition to the presidents that made it into song.......way to go, Patti!!

Looking over the lyrics to Let it all Fall Down I would bet that's about Nixon, too!!!

In John Lennon's song "God" is the lyric "I dont believe in Kennedy"

Right Paddy, and then the count down to Antje's show at the end of March!!

I did stop if for a cup of coffee last week while I was in the area, cute place... reminds of Perks in Norwood MA.. which I believe Chuck may have played before. Perks is very good at giving smaller names in the business a place to perform...

Thanks for the reminder about Antje's return to the Burlap and Bean....I'd forgotten that I saw that somewhere. I know she opened last time around and had time for 9 songs so here's hoping she's got more time next time..... 8)

....and you owe me a president!!! :P

nah, not really!!!

Abraham Martin and John........on wikipedia

Anybody here seen my old friend Abraham?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed lotta people but it seems the good they die young
You know I just looked around and he's gone

Anybody here seen my old friend John?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed lotta people but it seems the good they die young
I just looked around and he's gone

Anybody here seen my old friend Martin?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed lotta people but it seems the good they die young
I just looked around and he's gone

Didn't you love the things that they stood for?
Didn't they try to find some good for you and me?
And we'll be free
Some day soon, it's gonna be one day

Anybody here seen my old friend Bobby?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
I thought I saw him walkin' up over the hill
With Abraham, Martin, and John
