Nice one, Bonnie, thanks for starting this thread!
I'll take one.
Ellis Paul <-------> Bill Deasy
Bill's novel Ransom Seaborn has a dragonfly on the cover. There's much talk here about Bill (okay, mostly me ) and his music. There was some fanfare here when Ransom Seaborn won the 2006 Needle Award.
Artists are (by nature of what they do) competing for ever larger audiences and growing their fan base. One way Ellis does this is with constant touring. Criss crossing the country and bringing it to the people.
Bill Deasy, on the other hand and for the most part, stays pretty close to home. A few gigs outside the burgh a few times a year, but mostly close to home. Somehow it's enough for him and what he does, but a fan like me has always wondered how he's gonna reach larger audiences that way.
When I heard the title track to "The Dragonfly Races" the first 10x or so it sounded great and entirely about a dragonfly named Dusty in a forest in a race in which he wins.
Then one day, while listening, I got to thinkin!!!
Enjoy!!!

If you aren't familiar with the Six Degrees concept, Patti found a great link....

Who can connect Ellis to Kevin Bacon?
FYI, I am only three degrees away from Tom Cruise.

Bonnie.....I think I may have one, although short on details at the moment.
Did Kevin Bacon ever do a movie with Cher?
If he did, I would link the fact that Ellis' friend and music producer Flynn at one time worked with Cher on a song of his that appears in her film.
There ya go!

"Some people are born to make great art and others are born to appreciate it. It is a kind of talent in itself, to be an audience, whether you are the spectator in the gallery or you are listening to the voice of the world's greatest soprano. Not everyone can be the artist. There have to be those who witness the art, who love and appreciate what they have been privileged to see." -- Ann Patchett in Bel Canto.

I am friends with Sheri.
Sheri had an article published in a magazine.
Lea Thompson was on the cover of the magazine and she starred with....
Tom Cruise in All The Right Moves.
See. Tom and I are practically related.
Kevin Bacon did a movie with Meryl Streep. ~ The River Wild
Meryl Streep did Silkwood with Cher.

Normally I'd say yes, but I'm operating on too lil sleep this morning and feelin slightly "stunod" (stew nod - Italian for "out of it") this morning.
Gimme some sleep deprivation relief and a few days and I'll give it a go.
Dang text messaging thing with friends late last night cost me!!!
zzzzzz
On the subject......any Train fans here heard Pat's latest solo joint?

Okay...here goes nuttin!
I clicked on "quote" as instructed -- and could only come up with this:

Phone a friend or a "shout out" like in Cash Cab!!
I haven't given up yet Bonnie...
Cash Cab is a tv game show, kind of like Jepardy... it is played in the back of a New York City Taxi. A shout out is when you don't know an answer you shout out to a stranger on the street

Bonnie...got your PM...you totally rock!!!
That was a good one. WOW! The connection is close isn't it!
The band Train for any unaware are a most enjoyable group of musicians that I've been following musically (although not closely) for years. Have never caught them live but do love their music.
Definitely worth knowing if ya have the time.

Bonnie have you played this before??!!
That was good and even if Ralph wasn't his manager they appeared on the same CD Boston not Austin number one...
Good Going... now let's see who wants to go next....
I know a few board members are at Woody Fest.. but I suspect they might want to play when they get back.

I'll have a go at Ellis Paul -----Bridget Fonda
Ellis wrote music for 'Shallow Hal' starring Gwyneth Paltrow, GP is the daughter of Blythe Danner who appeared in a TV movie 'Back when we were grown ups' which also starred Peter Fonda who is the father of Bridget Fonda.
Am I right?

Re: Six Degrees of Ellis Paul
WOW!!! Great guess, Jela.
However......
In the DVD 3000 Miles when Ellis is on his 'roadtrip' he visits old friend Kristian Bush who is, of course, the source of "Kristian's Song" -- coincidentally, the Bridget Fonda connection takes place when the two trade new song verses. I'd have to go back and view the scene, but it did crack me up....and them, too!
KB had written a verse that rhymed Red Honda with Bridget Fonda. Not sure if he ever finished it.....it was likely between his Billy Pilgrim and Sugarland days.
I'll let the Niagara Falls connection go another day.

The Niagara Falls connection reveal......
Back when I was falling all over the music of Patty Griffin she had a song, actually two show up in a movie on the soundtrack.
The movie is Niagara Niagara and stars Robin Tunney and Henry Thomas of E.T. fame. I really enjoyed the storyline and the movie was actually a good one. The soundtrack, by Cowboy Junkies Michael Timmons works very well and of course Patty Griffin's song rocked the most.......
As most of you know Patty Griifin has sung amazing bgvox with Ellis Paul on record and in concert.
