Ellis Paul Radio Requests

Postby KarenZ » Fri Oct 20, 2006 10:11 am

Folks,

Below is a list of radio stations and syndicated radio shows around the country. Please call or e-mail to request tracks from Ellis Paul Essentials to get them out on the airwaves! E-mail addresses and web site addresses have been made clickable to make contacting them a bit easier. Of course you can also call if you prefer. :)

If you know stations who play Ellis Paul not on this list, please let me know so that they can be added.

Thanks for your support! :)

Folks,

I edited the message above so that the radio list is visible, rather than being a link. :)

Karen:

I think KPFT in Houston can be crossed off the list. They seemed to have abandoned their folk music stuff - unless it's moved to another place (I quit listening a couple of years ago, so my info may be old). The "Prison Show" is still on however.

I agree that we should fan out and help promote this most excellent record.

Hey BillE, It was me that suggested KPFT 90.1 fm in Houston be added to the list of stations likely to play Ellis' music. I went out to their website after Karen's request for any stations she might have missed. When I checked out recent playlists, up popped a song from Essentials. Upon seeing that, I sent Karen the word that this station was a good fit.

I must say I was a bit surprised at the changes there. It does seem to be lacking in the folk music department. Have not lived in Houston since the late 90's and really haven't kept up. I used to rely heavily on them for folk music finds.

As Ellis sings in his Sam Baker cover:

Things change.....they change alot!!!

I feel for you guys in the folk loving world down there, KPFT used to be such a mainstay. Luckily, you can always stream from the web. Since they have already played a song from the record.....in the 6am hour after the BBC news I think it was...I'd say keep it on the list.

And request away. :D

Paddy:

I stopped listening to KPFT a few years ago when they abandoned their folk music afternoon show. They may have something else now, but for a while they switched to strictly a Pacifica format - all politics. Maybe I'll check them out again...

Folks,

Jela's post this evening about hearing Ellis on BBC radio prompted me to re-visit this thread. Thanks so much for the response regarding writing reviews on Amazon, etc...but can I also ask you all to commit to e-mailing at least one radio station on this list? Perhaps one in your town and/or state? Or one of the syndicated shows? Since Jela said Bob Harris played "maria's beautiful mess" on BBC radio, maybe that's an omen that we should specifically request "Maria". I've made it very easy....you can simply click right on the e-mail link provided with each radio station listed on the radio list. Please do report back so we can see some activity in this thread as well. Ellis appreciated the messages in the "good vibes for Ellis" thread....so I know he would appreciate this as well.

Thanks again. :)

Folks,

This is really late notice but Jerry Treacy from WFDU is going to play "Maria's Beautiful Mess" from Essentials between 11am and 11:15am which is right NOW. (89.1FM if you're in the listening area of Teaneck, NJ.)

Timing is everything.....just saw this post...I'm all streamed in...likely a few min too late...maybe I'll hear the dj announce he just played MBM.

Noticed the site has a discussion forum. Be cool if folks started chatting about Ellis today after hearing Ellis on the radio. :D

Paddy,

Did you hear it? If not, you must have just missed it. But WOW was it nice hearing MBM on the radio airwaves instead of on my CD player....and hearing "this is going out to Karen who's listening on the Internet this Saturday morning." I just got logged in in time.... :)

Karen,

I must have just missed it.....been listening for a few minutes now, sounds like a cool homespun radio program. Sorry I missed the dedication. I'll look in on the forum there over the weekend to see if there's any chatter.

I was lamenting the existence of Delaware yesterday, as I always do driving north on the 95...expensive tolls, constant construction, and forty minutes to drive 12 miles, but then, while scanning the airwaves, there was ellis paul's voice singing "the world ain't slowin' down." Ahh, Delaware got a reprieve from my campaign to simply merge it with Maryland, from WXPN out of Philadelphia. My kids and I did ponder the dj's "kind of a kum-bi-ya feel to that ellis paul tune" comment all the way up the Jersey turnpike.
"...I implore you, I entreat you, I challenge you to speak with conviction, to say what you believe, in a manner that bespeaks the determination with which you believe it, because contrary to the wisdom of the bumper sticker, it is not enough these days to "question" authority, you have to speak with it, too."

Well you know that last Saturday I was so excited because BBC Radio 2 Bob Harris played 'Maria's Beautiful Mess' and I texted, sent an e-mail to the show and posted a message on the Discussion Board and said that my fave Ellis song is 'Conversation with a Ghost' ............

Having just had a look at tonight's playlist I'm bursting to tell you all that he's going to play CWAG. Now you can also listen it to via the Internet on

BBC Radio 2

it'll be on between 8.00 and 9.00pm your time (I'm guessing that it'll be at approx 8.30pm, which'll be 1.30 in the morning here!!!!)

Woo Hoo !!!

I'm hoping the dj's comment about The World Ain't Slowin Down being one of those Kum-ba-ya kind of songs was his way of saying it's one ya can't help but sing- a - long to.

Kum-bah-ya has become such a throw away phrase which can be used in a variety of instances whilst talking about folk music. Unfortunately, one has to be in on the joke, otherwise, common folk might read something else into such a reference, like it's a real 60's style slow and folksy thing.

I wished the dj would have just said what I think he meant.......such as:

Man...I love that song....and can't help but sing along to it. :D

I am friendly with a woman who has a radio show. She said that if I remind her 2 weeks before Ellis plays the Kingston MA show she will play him for her listeners. :D

She doesn't play him more often because her show is for local music and Virginia is not so local. :(

yeah but......you can take the boy out of Boston, but....

I'll always see Ellis as a local Boston musician and artist..........

Like i said once before, the other songwriters in Boston were probably lining up to help Ellis load the moving van........
