Folks,
On June 15, 1752 Ben Franklin conducted his famous kite experiment in Philadelphia. In the song below, co-written by Ellis Paul (he spposedly provided the ideas for the 3 verses) and another songwriting friend, Ben Franklin's experiment is commemorated. The songwriting friend recorded it on his 2001 release A Crooked Line and Ellis sings background vocals. Can you name Ellis' songwriting friend? Look below the lyrics for answer.
I Lost a Day to the Rain ©2000
Chorus:
I lost a day to the rain again
Retraced my steps over where I'd been
Searched high and low but too no end
I lost a day to the rain
Noah got his instructions through the holyland mail
He picked up that hammer started pounding those nails
But my roof is leaking I'm lining up pails
I lost a day to the rain
Repeat Chorus
Ben Franklin air-lifted a big old kite
With a small gold key on a stormy night
But I'll strike up a candle when I need a light
I lost a day to the rain
Repeat Chorus
Gene Kelly turned on his heel so gracefully
Wet and wild' drove the women all crazy
But I got two left feet and I'm a little bit lazy
I lost a day to the rain
Repeat Chorus
Repeat Chorus

"Some people are born to make great art and others are born to appreciate it. It is a kind of talent in itself, to be an audience, whether you are the spectator in the gallery or you are listening to the voice of the world's greatest soprano. Not everyone can be the artist. There have to be those who witness the art, who love and appreciate what they have been privileged to see." -- Ann Patchett in Bel Canto.
