"A thousand stairs up the Pompadou
we were gasping at the view
If we tried for Jim Morrison's gravesite too
we'd probably have to find a tour bus" -- Ellis Paul
Jim Morrison of the Doors died of a heart attack in Paris at the age of 27 on July 3, 1971. He's buried in Paris' Pere Lachaise cemetery, pictured above.

"Some people are born to make great art and others are born to appreciate it. It is a kind of talent in itself, to be an audience, whether you are the spectator in the gallery or you are listening to the voice of the world's greatest soprano. Not everyone can be the artist. There have to be those who witness the art, who love and appreciate what they have been privileged to see." -- Ann Patchett in Bel Canto.

Karen, I have been meaning to ask you ever since you journeyed across the pond to see Ellis; did you attempt to retrace his steps found in this song?
Great bit of Ellis Paul trivia this morning, and the challenge lies not so much in guessing the song title as possibly finding one's self over there and following in Ellis' footsteps.
Hope to someday read here that someone has tried it and feels like sharing it with the rest of us.

Paddy,
No...I didn't attempt to re-trace the steps in the song. And I would have needed another day to visit Jim Morrison's gravesite.

I would have needed an extra day to recover from the 1,000 steps up the Pompadou. We take all our visiting family members to the Philadelphia Art Museum so they can retrace Rocky's steps to the top. It's only about 75 steps at the most and I'm almost too tired upon reaching the top to do the ROCKY celebratory dance....but I do it anyway....
