Today (Feb. 20) in EP Music History Trivia

Postby KarenZ » Tue Feb 20, 2007 10:10 am

Folks,

On Feb. 20, 2004 I had the pleasure of seeing an Ellis Paul show at the Friends Meeting House in Williamsville, NY. That night I heard an EP song that I have only ever heard live 3 times - and I have not heard it again since that night. :( It contains the lyric:

"She’s the queen of light and candles; you give in
You always were a sucker for a scandal."

Can you name the song? Click HERE for answer.

"Some people are born to make great art and others are born to appreciate it. It is a kind of talent in itself, to be an audience, whether you are the spectator in the gallery or you are listening to the voice of the world's greatest soprano. Not everyone can be the artist. There have to be those who witness the art, who love and appreciate what they have been privileged to see." -- Ann Patchett in Bel Canto.

One of my all time favorite songs. I've never heard it live. I keep asking for it, but I never get it.

There are similarites between this tune and the tune of "Words" which I have heard live. It always seems like such a tease.
"...I implore you, I entreat you, I challenge you to speak with conviction, to say what you believe, in a manner that bespeaks the determination with which you believe it, because contrary to the wisdom of the bumper sticker, it is not enough these days to "question" authority, you have to speak with it, too."
Taylor Mali, "Like, You Know?"

I lied, or rather, I forgot. I heard the first few lines of "Art of Distance" at one of the Cabin Concerts last March 18. Ellis Paul started it, stopped, continued with the assistance of several members in the audience, and then gave into the frutility of the exercise. Someday. Maybe. One can always hope.
