Today (Sept. 1) in EP Music History Trivia

Postby KarenZ » Fri Sep 01, 2006 10:20 am

Hi folks,

I see that Ellis will be playing at one of his favorite venues tomorrow. Eddie's Attic in Atlanta. Some of you know that Ellis is a big Civil War buff. September 1 is a historic date in the timeline of the Civil War. It was on Sept. 1, 1864 that Union General William T. Sherman sent a telegram to President Abraham Lincoln saying:

Atlanta is ours and fairly won.

The photograph below taken by photographer George N. Barnard shows William T. Sherman in Atlanta Leaning on Breach of Gun.

It's pretty amazing to see this photograph from 142 years ago and others taken during the Civil War considering that capturing images (photography)was a fairly new technology. One of the first and greatest photographic documents of history-in-the-making was that of the Civil War.

Truthfully, though...I'd rather see pictures of Ellis Paul taken at Eddie's Attic....

"Some people are born to make great art and others are born to appreciate it. It is a kind of talent in itself, to be an audience, whether you are the spectator in the gallery or you are listening to the voice of the world's greatest soprano. Not everyone can be the artist. There have to be those who witness the art, who love and appreciate what they have been privileged to see." -- Ann Patchett in Bel Canto.

Um, is that 142 years ago? Still amazing, and fitting that Elllis would be in Atlanta this weekend.

 I hate it when I make blatant typos. 8) (I'll fix it now.)
