March 6 in EP Music History Trivia

Postby KarenZ » Thu Mar 06, 2008 9:55 am

"If you could paint her, she'd be a Picasso
She's got a few things out of place
Like when she smiles, it's slightly out of line
It's half awkward yet half grace"
-- Ellis Paul

Picasso's Tete de Femme:
Image

On this date in 1997 Picasso's painting Tête de Femme was stolen from a London gallery, but was recovered a week later.

Anyone want to give the title of the Ellis Paul song containing the lines of lyric above? Seems like the painting above could have easily be the one Ellis was thinking about.....but then again, maybe not..... 8)

KarenZ
"Some people are born to make great art and others are born to appreciate it. It is a kind of talent in itself, to be an audience, whether you are the spectator in the gallery or you are listening to the voice of the world's greatest soprano. Not everyone can be the artist. There have to be those who witness the art, who love and appreciate what they have been privileged to see." -- Ann Patchett in Bel Canto.

SO very easy....but I'm a fan who recognizes most all ep songs.....

Who gets this one only time will tell. Perhaps a newbie here will chime in? 8)

I once heard Ellis sing this song in a round robin. The participants were told to sing a song that mentions wine... Of all the songs that Ellis has that mentions wine! He realized after he started it takes awhile till you get to the line..." drunk on red wine".. when he finally did the crowd cheered!!

This song and thread, by the way, reminds me that I know so very little about the artwork of famed artist Pablo Picasso. It's always been a little weird when I've gazed upon any of his work in books. Guess you could say that I have Ellis Paul and this song to thank for giving Picasso a second thought. Today or any other day. Every time I hear this song. :D I do enjoy the one you've posted at the top of this trivia thread.....thanks, Karen. :)

Love this song. Especially love it when EP adlibs it in live performances:

While you're unraveling this mystery
Of where she fits in time and space,
She'll memorize your history
And decorate your place

To which he adds

"Like it's her place."

gets a lot of knowing laughs . . .

Cathy,

YES! I had forgotten about that! :) (Because it's been sooooo long since I've heard the song live.) :(

She'll Decorate Your Place

An addendum to this triva question:

Anybody know what Sharon's first contribution to Ellis's place was?

from the ep song Home

"home, is the woman across the table?"

or maybe it's...nah...one guess at a time. :)

Good guess, Paddy. Anyone who wants to know the answer, go here:

If you want to keep guessing, don't go there.

No rollaway bed, Paddy.

But here's a hint:

In the dashlight, his child was like one

I have one more hint if this one doesn't do it. What am I saying? Lyrical hints are dead giveaways on this board!!

Cathy

too much fun....let's see....

The lyrics are: but in the dashlight, she's like an angel falling to earth.

My next guess would be an angel of sorts.

Close?

Hooray! Yes, an angel. To be more precise, a Balinese angel, which is supposed to bring good luck.

You got it without my next hint:

Ellis saw one fall in Manhattan . . .

'til the next brainteaser . . . (aren't games like this supposed to prevent Alzheimer's? or is that crosswords? :? )

Cathy, thanks...this was a fun lil brain teaser...keep em coming. :D

Yep...one of those two word association games are believed to help.

Can't remember which one right now.
