Watercolor Cafe Show, Larchmont, NY on August 8th - Part 2. We traveled 175 miles with our handmade props in hand to the show. The show was intimate, dark and lots of fun... at they all are. We were lucky enough to get our requests played. Ellis even stopped the show for 5 minutes to go out to his car and get the words for Clarity, just in case. They were still there from the 20th Anniversary Passim shows.

Glenn,
Thanks so much for posting the videos! I didn't quite catch why Ellis had his back to the audience for "Clarity".......could someone explain that please?
So happy you got to hear your requests!

"Some people are born to make great art and others are born to appreciate it. It is a kind of talent in itself, to be an audience, whether you are the spectator in the gallery or you are listening to the voice of the world's greatest soprano. Not everyone can be the artist. There have to be those who witness the art, who love and appreciate what they have been privileged to see." -- Ann Patchett in Bel Canto.

Karen,
Ellis had gone out to his car to get the lyrics book from the July Passim shows, since he wasn't sure if he would remember the words to "Clarity". There was no music stand, so he rested the lyrics book on the piano, which had a small light with which to read music. So he sat on the piano bench, facing the piano, so he could see the lyrics while playing his guitar. So while he sounded terrific, the visuals weren't as great as when we see his face. FWIW, the audience loved hearing "Clarity", and they were so appreciative of hearing one of his less frequently played gorgeous songs.
Thanks for your help in sending our requests to Ellis.

If you're sitting too close to the performer, there's a good chance you'll be spit on as a natural by-product of being so close to the singer.

Karen,
Thanks for the explanation. Well then I should be glad he had his back to us so the spit would travel in the other direction. When he was standing, he was further away, so no flying spit. What a great concert - now you have me thinking about Gilford NH.
