Similarities: 'Words' and 'Art of Distance'

Postby Sue Ellen » Tue Feb 20, 2007 8:31 pm

Dear Ellis Paul:

Although other people tell me they do not, I hear similarities between these lines/phrases in "The Art of Distance:"

...."She's got candlelights & blankets"

...."How you gonna tell her?"

and these lines/phrases in "Words:"

...."Give them time and distance"

...."And here I am still reaching"

Why do those sound so similar to me? It's okay if you say "Because you are musically illiterate."

Thank you.

Sue Ellen

Sue Ellen--
the song as a couple of the same guitar riffs, they fall in between the phrases, it's in the same key and the same tuning, so there are bound to be similarities. It's getting harder and harder to keep from stealing from myself! I never wanted to be someone like james taylor, where there are so many similarities between songs, same key, same riffs, same tempo, same sentiment. I love him because of those consistencies, but I don't want to that for myself.
Ellis
