Song of the day
I like this thread from another board. It is just a place to list your own song of the day. No rules at all. It can be a song stuck in your head, or your CD player, or just a song that fits the day you are having.
Today my Song Of The Day is:
Dandelion ~ Antje Duvekot.
I played it over and over in my car while I was having trouble finding my friend's new house.

JayceK....yep, it's Lisa Hannigan alright....what a talented vocalist.
I jumped over to YouTube and was surprised by ALL the music videos of Damien Rice there for viewing. There's one of them playing 9 crimes at a concert in Central Park, New York. It's not great video or audio, and Damien begins the song on Piano and then leaps up to do the guitar part.
Did not enjoy it as much.........on Leno he is on Piano start to finish, with Lisa Hannigan singing the opening lines for like a minute, then Damien comes in at the second verse, and it becomes a beautiful duet.
Not sure what the CD version will sound like...but they nailed it on Leno and it was a joy to see their faces when Jay came over to shake hands. I think they realized how GOOD the performance was and were just soaking it all in.
Here's the link to the Leno performance on YouTube:

Hope that works.

I love Damien Rice. I have not heard the new stuff yet, but O creates such a beautifully peaceful mood.
My SOD is:
Sweet Mistakes ~ Some guy. Elvis, Eldon, Elton? Something like that.
I have been kind of down in the dumps lately about repeating some past bad behaviors. The song reminded me that changing those behaviors made me the happier person that I am today.

A recent roadtrip to New Jersey to see Bill Deasy pllay in Hoboken allowed me the opportunity to listen to music the way I like to listen to music the most: Alone in my car with the windows down and the volume up.
It's a 5 hour round trip with my 6 CD changer loaded witha few hastily grabbed essentials. The music flowed in this order:
Bill Deasy - Chasing Down A Spark
Ellis Paul - A Carnival Of Voices
Bill Deasy - Spring Lies Waiting
John Gorka - After Yesterday
The Gathering Field - Reliance
Ari Hest - Story After Story
Each and every tune could have been my choice for song of the day.

I have heard it twice in the last two days and that makes me happy.

Today I'm going for a rediscovered old favorite.
Christ Church Bells ~ The Hothouse Flowers.
I love love love this band. Liam, the singer, is one of those artists that is truly a conduit for the music. Once I saw him and he started talking about the song he was about to play, then he realised that his hands had been playing something else. Not like a mistake, like a surprise.

I do have the newest CD. Some of it is a little too trippy for my taste, but I really love End Of The Road. I saw them when they were in Boston supporting it and I am always blown away at how powerful they are. They put on a great show.
Keeping with the Irish theme, my song of the day is:
Cannonball~ Damien Rice

My song of the day is one by an old fave of mine who I feel I have almost no connection to whatsoever beyond the three CDs of his I own. He just slipped through the cracks somehow from a fandom perspective.
That was untiil he popped up on CMT's 330 Sessions a while back. Now I'm spending a bit more time trying to play catch up. One of those performances was on the other day and is now on my Tivo.
Enough Rope by Chris Knight.
It's on his new record which I don't have. Not sure how it will compare to the live performance with just Chris and a fellow on fiddle. Amazing.

bonnie and pete.........
Hothouse Flowers will play Sellersville, Pa in late April. There is an old theater that hosts concerts....Sellersville 1894....is the venue.
Thanks to you two and this thread....which I love by the way.....I hope to check these guys out on record...and live in concert.
Where to start with their recorded stuff??? I understand the band U2 took them under wing at some point...and that's the extent of my HF knowledge.

Hour In Texarkana ~ Don Con
While I have stopped listening to it, I have NOT stopped singing it under my breath.
but i did not throw my fists
i didn't scream at god for this.
and i did not put a bullet in my brain.
but this young deputy
wasn't givin me one damn inch
for an hour in texarkana in the rain

Oh boy, this one is stuck tight (and if you watch the video link below you'll perhaps see why...)
"Lady Marmalade" (aka "Voulez Vous Couchez Avec Moi, Ce Soir?")
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKQgTiqhPbw
Can anyone tell me who did that back in the '70s? I can't remember.

Wow, SusanH, now that's a coincidence.
I wanted so badly to see Fred Eaglesmith at Tin Angel last night. Alas, I had to settle for the next best thing.......

Blizzard
My song of the day today is Blizzard -- Ellis Paul.
They have been forecasting a big storm for my area for a few days now and though it has yet to reach me it has been on my mind all day.
I also just plain love the song.
