Folks,
Well, since we opened this can of worms in another thread today, I'll get things started here.
Actually the first thing that popped into my head is a misinterpreted lyric, rather than one that was misheard. Raised a Catholic, when I heard the line about Boys Town in the song Medicine, I could never figure out why Father Flanagan's boys were partying 'round the clock.
In boys town, they party ‘round the clock.
The clock is spinning backwards.
The jesters doubletalk.
Much later I found out that boys town was a reference to the gay community. What can I say? I've lead a sheltered life.
We really need to discuss ALL the lyrics in this song!

Misheard lyrics
"Some people are born to make great art and others are born to appreciate it. It is a kind of talent in itself, to be an audience, whether you are the spectator in the gallery or you are listening to the voice of the world's greatest soprano. Not everyone can be the artist. There have to be those who witness the art, who love and appreciate what they have been privileged to see." -- Ann Patchett in Bel Canto.

Re: Misheard lyrics
my biggest blunder is the doby gray song, drift away.
i spent my entire childhood singing "gimme the peapods and save my soul"
the correct, yet vegetable free lyrics are "give me the beat boys and free my soul"
