"Some people are born to make great art and others are born to appreciate it. It is a kind of talent in itself, to be an audience, whether you are the spectator in the gallery or you are listening to the voice of the world's greatest soprano. Not everyone can be the artist. There have to be those who witness the art, who love and appreciate what they have been privileged to see." -- Ann Patchett in Bel Canto.

Re: Barack Obama Inauguration
Just watched.....amazing and inspiring.
My wife had lost her cellphone in a snow covered parking lot yesterday. Our son helped search to no avail. Just as they were pulling out, my wife noticed a blue light flashing under the snow. Someone was calling her on her phone. It had been found!!! As the lil guy likes to tell the story : "Dad, you'll never guess who was calling"
Barack Obama's committee calling to remind her to watch the inauguration today!
He called the finding of the phone ----- the miracle of Obama!!!

What an extraordinary day in our history. My boys are home from school today (snow day) so we got to share this remarkable event together. I'm sure they would have watched it in school but to witness history with them made it even more wonderful. I am so proud to be another mama for Obama!
P.S. Paddy, that is too cool about dw's cell phone, in many ways!

Re: Barack Obama Inauguration
About to watch the Inaugural Parade live.....some memorable moments for me:
Obama seemed to flub the oath.....but it was actually Justice John Roberts who erred and Obama who was just trying to get it right.
Aretha Franklin sang "My Country tis of Thee" beautifully.
Yo Yo Ma and friends perfromed beautifully a new John Williams piece.
President Obama's old colleague read a poem she had written for the day.
I loved his speech!

Sadly, Teddy Kennedy collapsed at the Inaugural Luncheon. President Obama addressed his friend and colleague with heart warming tribute and concern. Further reports say he's improving.
Godspeed Teddy!

Paddy,
I suspect the Jan 20 date is incorrect and should say April 25. There's still time for you to be there.

Change...today the pallette with which my children's dreams, all our children's dreams, are painted was changed forever.
"...I implore you, I entreat you, I challenge you to speak with conviction, to say what you believe, in a manner that bespeaks the determination with which you believe it, because contrary to the wisdom of the bumper sticker, it is not enough these days to "question" authority, you have to speak with it, too."

Re: Barack Obama Inauguration
I could not watch the inauguration live, stuck at work, but I taped it and watched last night. It actually brought a tear to my eye. For a change I can feel proud to be an American.
What an amazing event!
Thank you President Obama! Good luck!

Re: Barack Obama Inauguration
Nipped in the bud.....
President Barack Obama has just retaken the oath of office.....
Chief Justice John Roberts has just readministered the presidential oath of office to President Barack Obama.
Is Washington a town of lawyers.......or what???
Earlier today Vice President Joe Biden was about to swear in the senior staff and joked that his memory was not as good as Justice Roberts....as President Obama stood nearby obviously not amused with the VEEP'S decision to make light of the previous day's fumbling of the presidential oath.
It's also said that President Obama wanted to have Justice Roberts readminister the oath of office to take some of the heat off of the Chief Justice.
And that's what I like about Obama......he's just plain smart!!!
