Nice one, Bonnie, thanks for starting this thread! :D

I'll take one.

Ellis Paul <-------> Bill Deasy

Bill's novel Ransom Seaborn has a dragonfly on the cover. There's much talk here about Bill (okay, mostly me :P ) and his music. There was some fanfare here when Ransom Seaborn won the 2006 Needle Award.

Artists are (by nature of what they do) competing for ever larger audiences and growing their fan base. One way Ellis does this is with constant touring. Criss crossing the country and bringing it to the people.

Bill Deasy, on the other hand and for the most part, stays pretty close to home. A few gigs outside the burgh a few times a year, but mostly close to home. Somehow it's enough for him and what he does, but a fan like me has always wondered how he's gonna reach larger audiences that way.

When I heard the title track to "The Dragonfly Races" the first 10x or so it sounded great and entirely about a dragonfly named Dusty in a forest in a race in which he wins.

Then one day, while listening, I got to thinkin!!!

Enjoy!!! 8)

If you aren't familiar with the Six Degrees concept, Patti found a great link....

Who can connect Ellis to Kevin Bacon?

FYI, I am only three degrees away from Tom Cruise. :P

Bonnie.....I think I may have one, although short on details at the moment.

Did Kevin Bacon ever do a movie with Cher? :P

If he did, I would link the fact that Ellis' friend and music producer Flynn at one time worked with Cher on a song of his that appears in her film.

There ya go! :D

Didn;t find that answer Paddy but Cher was in Stuck On You.. which I think is the movie that had Flynn's song in it, That movie was directed by The Farrelly brothers!

Sheri had an article published in a magazine.
Lea Thompson was on the cover of the magazine and she starred with....
Tom Cruise in All The Right Moves.

See. Tom and I are practically related. :P

Kevin Bacon did a movie with Meryl Streep. ~ The River Wild
Meryl Streep did Silkwood with Cher.

Bonnaroo....just to clarify. :D

Would it be a real....real...connection....or a song lyric thing? :?

Such as:

Train....Drops of Jupiter
Ellis......Did Gallileo Pray?

With both songs reaching for the stars so to speak!

Bonnie I gave a quick look earlier today, before THAT hint!! Will still keep looking but I know I won;t have much time the rest of today... And yesterday I had no time cuz I was AT the Red Sox game.. and they def. didn't bring me down. More later...

Phone a friend or a "shout out" like in Cash Cab!!

I haven't given up yet Bonnie...

Cash Cab is a tv game show, kind of like Jepardy... it is played in the back of a New York City Taxi. A shout out is when you don't know an answer you shout out to a stranger on the street

I'll send you a PM Paddy, it sounds like Patti is still working on it.

Name a celeb/musician and we will try and make a connection.

Bonnie...got your PM...you totally rock!!! :D

That was a good one. WOW! The connection is close isn't it!

The band Train for any unaware are a most enjoyable group of musicians that I've been following musically (although not closely) for years. Have never caught them live but do love their music.

Definitely worth knowing if ya have the time. 8)

Sorry Bonnie couldn't come up with it.. the extent of my knowledge is what I get when I search google. I helped chaperone a pool club campout last night so I know I am not functioning on all cylinders....

I need a "Shout Out"

Brendan Bush plays keyboards with Train. He is the brother of Sugarland's Kristian Bush, who wrote Little Wood Guitar with Ellis.

Patti, please pick a random celebrity and we will see if we can find a connection. :D

you know.. everything I look at did NOT mention the band members name. They just listed the original 2 friends.. ahh. I so would have got that.

this will probably be easy.....Warren Beatty....

but for some strange reasonI really wanted to go with Jimmy Carter??? LIke I said "camp out pool until 2:00 AM... not all cylinders....

Posted: Sat Jul 12, 2008 11:58 am

Jimmy Carter it is!!

I'll get back to you. :D

Posted: Sun Jul 13, 2008 12:03 am
by bonuela
Ok.

I've got it!!

Jimmy Carter does work with Habitat for Humanity.
Branford Marsalis worked with Habitat on the Musician's Village project in New Orleans.
Branford performed on Vinx's "Rooms in My Fatha's House".
Vinx is (was?) managed by Ralph Jaccodine who also manages........

Ellis Paul.

Phew, that was a though one Patti.

Posted: Sun Jul 13, 2008 11:36 am
by Patti
Bonnie have you played this before??!!

That was good and even if Ralph wasn't his manager they appeared on the same CD Boston not Austin number one...

Good Going... now let's see who wants to go next....

I know a few board members are at Woody Fest.. but I suspect they might want to play when they get back.

Patti....here's a couple. :)

Ellis Paul ====> Niagara Falls

Ellis Paul ====> Bridget Fonda

by Richard + Jela
I'll have a go at Ellis Paul -----Bridget Fonda

Ellis wrote music for 'Shallow Hal' starring Gwyneth Paltrow, GP is the daughter of Blythe Danner who appeared in a TV movie 'Back when we were grown ups' which also starred Peter Fonda who is the father of Bridget Fonda.

Am I right?

Jela

that works for me Jela!!

hmmm...having just been to Niagara Falls you would think I might know that connection but I haven't come up with anything....hmmm...

Re: Six Degrees of Ellis Paul

Posted: Tue Aug 05, 2008 9:53 pm
by paddyinthepub
WOW!!! Great guess, Jela. :D

However...... :P

In the DVD 3000 Miles when Ellis is on his 'roadtrip' he visits old friend Kristian Bush who is, of course, the source of "Kristian's Song" -- coincidentally, the Bridget Fonda connection takes place when the two trade new song verses. I'd have to go back and view the scene, but it did crack me up....and them, too!

KB had written a verse that rhymed Red Honda with Bridget Fonda. Not sure if he ever finished it.....it was likely between his Billy Pilgrim and Sugarland days.

I'll let the Niagara Falls connection go another day.

The Niagara Falls connection reveal...... 8)

Back when I was falling all over the music of Patty Griffin she had a song, actually two show up in a movie on the soundtrack.

The movie is Niagara Niagara and stars Robin Tunney and Henry Thomas of E.T. fame. I really enjoyed the storyline and the movie was actually a good one. The soundtrack, by Cowboy Junkies Michael Timmons works very well and of course Patty Griffin's song rocked the most....... :D

As most of you know Patty Griifin has sung amazing bgvox with Ellis Paul on record and in concert. 8)

Here's one for ELLIS PAUL <-------> CHER
in 4 steps:

Ellis Paul's song 3000 Miles was featured in the closing credits of the Farrelly Brother's movie "Me, Myself & Irene"

Flynn's song HUMAN was featured in the closing credits of the Farrelly Brother's movie "Stuck On You" featuring Cher

Flynn produced & performed with Ellis on his SONGS FROM AN AMERICAN JUKEBOX album

Cher performed with Flynn on the song HUMAN

BONUS connexion:
Flynn may or may not be able to reach Cher's assistant via phone & leave Ellis' contact info with them for a quick call back.

Sorry, couldn't resist!

Hoping we can turn this into one of the TRIVIA GAMES at ELLISfest next weekend!!!

With those of you unable to attend in person able to text or post your answers here (if we have web-access at the hotel, that is!)
