China Earthquake 2008

Postby paddyinthepub » Tue May 13, 2008 1:14 pm

The news from China about the big earthquake is just heart breaking. Godspeed to the rescuers and survivors and the unknown lives lost.

Hear Hear Paddy and thoughts also go out to those poor people in Burma affected by the cyclone.

Kind of puts another slant on day to day struggles in a there but for the grace kind of way. Mother Nature's wrath tends to make everyday problems pale by comparison. The way tornados lay towns and neighboorhoods to waste. My god it's heartbreaking to see the utter devastation thrust upon ordinary folks leading ordinary lives until Mother Nature comes knocking.

Words fail me when it comes to these kinds of things...

"Some people are born to make great art and others are born to appreciate it. It is a kind of talent in itself, to be an audience, whether you are the spectator in the gallery or you are listening to the voice of the world's greatest soprano. Not everyone can be the artist. There have to be those who witness the art, who love and appreciate what they have been privileged to see." -- Ann Patchett in Bel Canto.

Karen....I know what ya mean.

These words often come to mind when tragedy strikes in the world.

from The Gypsy Life by John Gorka

There is nothing in my head today
Nothing awful there to ponder or confuse me
Go ahead in what you have to say
And I will listen as I listen to the news

I know the whole truth there is horrible
It's better if you take a little at a time
Too much and you are not portable
Not enough and you'll be making happy rhymes
