The Cure for PELDS

Postby KarenZ » Tue Apr 08, 2008 9:46 am

Folks,

A few years ago it was determined that BeckyG was suffering from a previously unheard of syndrome called PELDS - Post Ellis Let Down Syndrome. Although PELDS is not terminal, in some persons the syndrome worsens until airfare to an Ellis Paul show is booked or tickets to an Ellis Paul show are purchased. But those cases are extreme! :)

Having experienced the syndrome myself, and having been part of several clinical trials researching treatment for PELDS, a cure was discovered. It worked for BeckyG (and me!) and I know it will work for you! :)

In most cases symptoms of the syndrome evaporate almost immediately with the following therapy:

1. Joining a support group (if you’re reading this, you’ve already done Step 1!)
2. Making a phone call to another Ellis Paul Devotee.
3. Posting about Ellis Paul’s music on his discussion board.
4. Listening to Ellis Paul music at home.
5. Reading postings on the Ellis Paul discussion board.
6. Posting Ellis Paul show photos on the discussion board.
7. Listening to Ellis Paul music in the car.
8. Browsing through Ellis Paul show photos in the Photograph forum of the EP discussion board.
9. Listening to Ellis Paul music at work.
10. Buying a ticket to an Ellis Paul show or booking airfare for an Ellis Paul road trip (for extreme cases).
11. A combination of any two, 1 through 9, above. (I have found that combination therapy works best.)
12. Like all 12-step programs, carrying the message to others (spreadin’ the word) is the best therapy of all...... :)

Dean, let me know if it works. ;)

Ahhh.... feeling much better now.... [that dazzed and relaxed look] I was starting to get the blues, but one look at some photos of EP shows and I'm much better. Especially of those small ones at the recent family show...

Thanks for the list. I'm printing and posting it at work and at home so I don't forget!

Thanks Karen! You're awesome.

As someone who has experienced extreme cases of PELDS, I just have to say that these steps have always worked for me! :D Karen, you should have an M.D. after your name!

If any faction of any PELDS group needs a theme song....I suggest this one:

Ain't It Heavy
by Melissa Etheridge

Sometimes I know that its never enough
Survival is fine but satisfaction is rough
I try with an angel tonight
Spread these wings and Im on for the ride
Cruise these streets where my innocence hides
Theres some things you cant deny
What is it about this human condition
I need some kind of promise
Some kind of submission tonight

Heavy
Aint it heavy
Aint the night heavy

Im feelin kinda loose Im feelin kinda mean
Ive been feeling kinda wild since I turned seventeen
Or is it madness
Tell me where can a woman find any kind of peace
When does the fury and the agony cease
How long have I got to say please
Theres a hole in my jeans I only wanted to fade
Ive been ripping out seams
Somebody else made tonight

Heavy
Aint it heavy
Aint the night heavy

Live in the Now
By Ellis Paul
From the Album "Translucent Soul"

I've got a farm house,
It's a big white farmhouse
And forty acres in my head
You got a kitchen,
It's an oak floor kitchen
And a big brass feather bed
And there in the parlor,
An old upright piano
And a precocious blue-eyed kid
Playing the keys
Playing the keys

Live in the now
A room with a view of Cambridge
Live in the now
Traffic, noise, and neighborhood kids
We're sitting in the kitchen
You reach cross the table
And put a finger on my wrinkled brow
You say, "Live in the now,
Live in the now"

'Cause life is what happens
When you're busy making plans
That's what John Lennon said
Then he quit the phuckin' band

Tell me which part
Is it the castle, or the sand
That you miss when the tide comes along?

I'm alone on a highway
Only silos break the view
A field of sunflowers
A scarecrow paying dues
And I think to myself
"Man, that's not what I'd choose "
But here I am, and look where I've gone
All for the song
Till the tide comes along

Live in the now
An audience is waiting
Live in the now
Whose day are you creating?
I slip into to the hotel
I put the phone on a pillow
Your voice makes it better somehow
You say, "Live in the now"
"Live in the now"

Ha-ha-ha....awesome list, Karen!!! YOU are awesome and you understand by having been there. The syndrome does translate to a couple other musicians in its variant forms, so beware.

I love this 12-step programme!

I also suffer the same sort of affliction after having attended a music festival as well as after seeing particular artists.

Thanks for thr remedy, Dr. Karen

Folks,

This time 'round, the cure also included immediately attending the house concert of another wonderful musician - namely Mark Erelli. :)

Well that is indeed a nice cure for the PELDS... but let's hope nobody contracts MELDS!!! (Mark Erelli Let Down Syndrome  ) I think Jela will be suffering from that later this year, but she appears to have her remedies all lined up :P

That's my goal as well. It all depends on what time the 1st Birthday Party is scheduled.

Bonnie,

Can you say Mauch Chunk Opera House?

Thought that might be the show you were referencing......but I see Circle of Friends is closer and sooner. 8)

We got EP at Puck Live in Doylestown for 2 shows in our sights on January 31st. :D
