What a treat. Even though this was listed as a split bill, I figured it would be 20 mins of Flynn and an hour of Antje. We got an hour of each plus a duet!!

I brought 10 people with me, a personal best. :D Two of my friends did not know either musician and went because SusanH and I told them they'd have fun!! They did.

It seems that Flynn has finally settled on the name for that new song. It is Emerald Dream. He also sang one of the other new ones, Be Careful What you Wish For. Who doesn't love a song that starts off ....The only way out was the bedroom window....?

It was nice to see you Jeff, sorry I didn't get a chance to talk to you. That wasn't so much a "shout-out" as a "shut up". I might have teased him incessantly every time his last CD was delayed because of American Jukebox Fables. He might have been afraid I'd yell out "April of what year?" If not, he should have been. I was about to.

Flynn's Jim Thorpe Feb. 17, 2007 show

Postby KarenZ » Sun Feb 18, 2007 1:01 pm

Folks,

Moving this here from another thread.

barb62 wrote:Hello fellow Ellis fans - I saw Flynn last night in Jim Thorpe PA and believe me when I tell you, it was worth the 3 hour drive! Flynn was exceptional - his energy on stage is incredible. He played many songs from his three CDs and also a few new ones that will be out eventually on his new CD.

I had the opportunity to talk with Flynn after the show and found out he had his second child, a girl, eight weeks ago. Seems like he and Ellis have alot in common on a personal note also! Flynn also has a 4 year old son who we hear on his song "Strange." Speaking of "Strange," I requested that song and Flynn was more than happy to deliver a very energized performance of it.

Just as Ellis in the past, Flynn has captured my soul and I will be a forever fan. Can't wait to hear more from this great artist - and by the way, Flynn is as nice as Ellis and it is a very refreshing thing to see.

Folks,

Here's a link to 3 photos from Flynn's show last night compliments of Barb (McDonald) Mauer. Flynn is pictured with Barb and her children.

Thanks, Barb! :)

Thanks Barb for the great review and pictures. I am sooo jealous. This is one show I really wanted to see. We three Boston road warriors discussed this show, but fear of snow kept us home. :(

Dear Bonnie and Paddie,

I felt extremely fortunate to attend this great show - I had to call out from work, but it was well worth it since Flynn does not tour often like Ellis does. I still can't believe how nice he is and down to earth- no wonder Ellis and him are such great friends. I mentioned that we traveled 3 hours to see him, and he was shocked! He is so humble which is a great quality.

There was a lot of snow in Jim Thorpe, PA, but it wasn't that bad. We have no snow at all in South Jersey.

Paddy,
that is quite alright- you can keep the snow - I am definitely a warm climate person - this cold weather is not for me! Can't wait for spring and the outside folk festivals to begin - hopefully I'll be able to attend one this coming year!

Barb, I know what ya mean. Not crazy about the cold stuff either.

A couple in the thick of snow removal chores had the bright idea recently to offer their snow to any in need of it......on ebay.!.!.!.!

Barb,

What was the show like? Was there a big crowd? Did they seem to enjoy Flynn?

Here are the videos from the Rose Garden show.

Dear Bonnie

The snow kept alot of people away, but the people there seemed to enjoy Flynn. Due to the lack of a heavy crowd, I was able to talk quite a bit to Flynn and I am amazed how nice he is. I posted on his website and he emailed me back the same day which I thought was great!

I loved the videos you gave me the links to - I did not have "Be Careful What you Wish For." I video taped the entire Jim Thorpe show except for the talking in between (I was afraid to lose battery life) and my husband transferred the video to my computer, then to my IPOD. I would love to send you the whole show if only I knew how. I'm not sure it is possible. You seem to love Flynn as much as I do. Feel free to email me at barb62@comcast.net and I'll be happy to send you more pictures.

What was it like to have Flynn play at your birthday party? Do you live close to him or did he travel far to be there?

I'm leaving for work now, but like I said before, I would be happy to send you the pictures I have.

I will email you with my info, thanks!!

He is in the Boston area and so am I. The party was at my parent's house in Sharon MA and he came from his vacation in Maine. It was a fun time and a really memorable one. He was wonderful with all of the friends and family. He took the time to talk to people and sign things and pose for pictures. Plus I got to choose the setlist!!

Bonnie - great video (just watched Be Careful Watch You Wish For - only missing the nice intro where he talke dabout driving to Presque Isle).

Much like Ellis, Flynn is very friendly, and pretty accessible after his shows. Always a treat to talk with.

Does Cannondrop know? ;)

I'm so excited about the Irish Bard's new cd. I'm giggling in anticipation.

So I've had a sneak preview of The Answer's Not Enough and I am so excited that I can hardly contain myself!! I can't wait for you all to be able to hear it too.

It is a great mix of genres. There is Folk and Pop and Rock, something for everyone. :-)

It has hints of Ellis throughout. He produced one song and sings on a few others and even co wrote some of them. Antje Duvekot collaborated as well. There are two versions of the duet Breathless.

I think we should start a thread to discuss:

1. WHY the answer isn't enough....and

2. WHEN is the answer enough?

:)

Bonnie,

I just placed my order at CD Freedom. I'll let you know when I get it, but I doubt I'll have it and have time to listen before leaving for WoodyFest next Wednesday.

You'd make a terrific discussion board moderator for Flynn. ;)

Hi everyone,

I received Flynn's new CD the other day and it is fantastic! It is great to hear Emerald Dream - Flynn sang this last time I saw him in Jim Thorpe PA. Speaking of Jim Thorpe, I already have my tickets to see Flynn in October thanks to Bonnie emailing me - thanks so much!

The CD is incredible with Flynn doing his version of She's The One and there is a song that Ellis and Flynn sing (the title has slipped my mind, sorry) and it is a "new" Ellis with a rock edge - very cool!

All the songs sound great and I know everyone will enjoy it as much as me. Buy your copy today!

The new Flynn CD was waiting for me when I got home from WoodyFest and I've finally managed to eek out a couple listens. Barb, the song with the rock edge that I think you are referring to is "No sympathy". All I can say is Cannondrop lives! :) Now I understand why EP calls Flynn the folk-rock legend. ;) I like the melody of "Emerald Dream" alot too....and the acoustic version duet of "Breathless" (lyrics by Antje Duvekot; music by Flynn) with Antje. More when I get a chance to give it a few more listens....

Bonnie....you go girl.....getting a thank you in the liner notes. :)

Richard + Jela wrote:Bonnie, I listened in over the Internet. He sang three songs:
1. The answer is not enough
2. Emerald Dream
3. Be careful what you wish for

After the first song he talked about what he'd been doing since the release of his last CD and the latest one - talked about working/producing Ellis, writing with him and Antje and writing music for film 'Lucy Keyes'

Talked about how Emerald Dream was written last year when he was in Ireland. Inspiration for it was the living statues in Grafton St in Dublin, people dressing up as statues and moving to a different pose when someone puts money into their collection.

Be careful what you wish for - how most of it was written on the 6hr drive to Presque Isle with EP and AD and how they helped him to write the words. He said it was about a woman he'd met (at a gig?) except that she turned out to be really scary!!! To get the song they kept asking him 'well how did you feel?' and they were able to articulate the feelings in words suitable for a song.

Mentioned that in the fall he's going to be doing a slew of concerts in the mid west with EP. Mentioned the CD release party at Passims next month.

The reason he was on the radio was as part of a local music week. He also talked about how Ellis (altho' he called him by his real name, Paul, throughout) and he have completely different approaches to songwriting. Ellis very much starts with the words, Flynn with a melody. Says that he has concentrated on producing, writing for film so that he can stay at home, not that he doesn't like touring but that he doesn't do many shows.

That's about all I remember, I wrote down the song titles but nothing else so I'm relying on my memory for the content.

Just love his Irish accent - in fact anyone who speaks with that accent has me all a quiver! And he said 'Thanks a million!' such an Irish saying!

It is a kind of talent in itself, to be an audience, whether you are the spectator in the gallery or you are listening to the voice of the world's greatest soprano. Not everyone can be the artist. There have to be those who witness the art, who love and appreciate what they have been privileged to see." -- Ann Patchett in Bel Canto.

Sorry. I'm a little excited.

I just wanted to remind the locals that Flynn is playing his CD release show at Club Passim next Thursday.

There will be special guests galore. Ellis and Antje are confirmed and I believe he will have some bandmembers joining him. (I'm not sure on the band.)
