Hey Folk folks, sorry for the delay. I have had some internet issues.

The show was unbelieeeeeeeevable.

Seth Glier opened the show with Ryan (I'll get back to you on his last name) on guitar. I really enjoy his piano playing and his voice.

Flynn played with a band that included Ryan and Seth along with John Sands on drums and Richard Gates on the stairs. He didn't play the stairs, he played bass, but he never set foot on the stage. :P

The set was varied, both old and new. Flynn and Seth had quite the banter going on. Each ribbing the other about their age and their height discrepancy. My favorite quip was Flynn telling Seth, "Son, I brought you into this world....."

I do wish that the show had started of solo, like Ellis does. The band was great, but a few songs alone would have been nice too.

I brought a bunch of newbies and many of them bought CDs, so that's cool. :D

Thanks to Susan for the setlist:

The Answer's Not Enough
Let The Show Begin
Wonderful
Alright By Me
Human
Hot and Cold
If She's The One
Living in America
Heat of The Sun
As I Roved - a bluesy version thanks to Seth's keyboard.
Emerald Dream
Strange
Love is Blind

Encore:
Boston Got Ahold of Me - new song, he is still changing the lyrics around
White

I'll get the pictures up eventually.

Someone used Flynn's All I Am as the soundtrack to an Obama montage.

Bonnie - watched both postings - thanks.

Really like Flynn and Seth Glier on 'She's the One' and the Obama photo montage fits perfectly with 'All I Am' I hope lots of people see it and that it leads many 'newbies' to Flynn's music.

Hey All-

I saw Flynn open for Antje last night..

Set list:
An American Wake
Time To Move On
Human
Be Careful What You Wish For
White

As always he sounded great. Funny story, I see Flynn often, and tend to know his stories, well he told a story I hadn't heard before last night.
He said he was going to do a song he doesn't do very often and he went on to tell this touching story about a cousin of his that had died and how his mother was holding his hand when he passed. He then sang Time to Move On, when he finished he decided to let us in on a secret...he sang the wrong song! It was too funny!

If you want to see Flynn as a youngun', there are some videos up on Youtube. I can't access the links from this computer, but if you search for "Cliffs Of Dooneen Carol" and "Cliffs Of Dooneen Through and Open Window" you're in for a treat.

This is from an old review in the Boston Phoenix.

".... Their story was a familiar one: signed by a major label, stirred up a minor national buzz, released a single ("Through an Open Window") that got some MTV play. Picked up some criticism along the way, notably for a resemblance to mid-period U2 (a resemblance the band have always denied, but trust me, it's there -- especially on the first album, The Dog Went East and God Went West). ...."

I saw Flynn at a house concert this weekend. Thanks to Tim for a wonderful setting! I just love leaning back on a couch, eating a cookie and listening to my favorite music.
I did not take a setlist, but there was a notebook being passed around.

He did play a cover song. It is called Ellis, Tuning. Anyone who has ever seen EP live is familiar with this song. :P He played some older stuff and it was nice to hear the stories behind those songs.

There were two sets with a snack break in the middle. The first set was 36 minutes and 40 seconds. I'm not sure on the second one as that was not announced.

It was nice to see Patti there, I hope it was a scouting trip for Patti's Place as I'd love to see him in her basement too!!

I'll have video and photo links shortly.

Flynn is playing a CD release show in the beginning of May and I will post that info shortly.

What a great night of music and yes Bonnie it was def. a "scouting" trip!! I've only heard Flynn perform a few times with Ellis so it was really nice to see a solo show. He really is a show man all on his own. I have to admit I was also looking forward to watching Bonnie enjoy the show. :D We have to look toward a date on the calendar that doesn't conflict with the soccer or Red Sox schedule,

I have the set list but I kept it is out in the car with the 3 new cds I bought so I can figure out the songs that he performed that night..!!

It was great to see you there Sue!!

TCAN is a great place to see a show. The sound is excellent, and the audience is filled with people who appreciate the music.

Seth Glier and Ryan Hommel opened, followed by Adam Ezra, after the break Flynn did a solo set, after that, ALL FOUR took the stage for a few songs. YOWZA!!

Flynn said that Seth suggested they go on in age order, but I think they did it by height. :P

The "supergroup" did all covers. Ramble On, Wild Horses and Let It Be. Flynn played the bodhran on Wild Horses, something I've never seen him do before. It was so much fun to see musicians playing off of each other and just having fun.

Well another wonderful performance by Flynn tonight. Everything went smoohtly..John Colver's opening set was very nice... And Flynn was in great spirits. He has a great batch of new songs and they all sounded super.
He was pretty excited about it since he has had a bit of writers block the last year or so.. Sue kept a set list and will post soon..(be sure to include the part cover part Flynn song that Bonnie requested. Flynn worked one of his songs into a special request from Bonnie and it was goooood.... Bonnie thanks SO much for taking care of everything else.. really... Flynn (and me) are lucky to have you as a fan/helper. Thanks so much gals.... It was fun to see everyone...

If Mark Erelli's show was the coldest day of the year.. today had to be the hottest.. Thank god for central air...

Patti...thank you so much for hosting such a great show.
it was a great time in Seekonk and Flynn did an amazing job. Fresh off a vacation in the Finger Lakes, where he and his nephews had a daily contest to write a song a day. Luckily we got to hear a whole bunch of new material all of which sounded great.

Set list:
Carousel (new song)
American Wake
Emerald Dream
Welcome to the New Frontier (new song)
Heat of the Sun
Wonderful

Break

Strange
Human
Hot and Cold/Use me
Out of Love (new Song)
Let Yourself Go
Slow Down (new song)
Desert Angel (new Song)
Be Careful What You Wish For
If She's the One
White

Bonnie played stump the musician, Flynn used to play "Use Me", and she head it on the radio the other day and she asked him to play it for her. So he rehearsed before hand and mixed it into Hot and Cold which sounded amazing!

Thanks for the set list Sue... I can't believe I blew my chance to ask for The Answers Not Enough.. though I like She Is The One.. The Answers Not Enought was the song I meant to ask for.. Oh well next time... there will be a next time.. right.. Bonnie thanks again for your help and inviting your Flynn fan friends..all sweathearts. And I know there are a few more Flynn fans in the world today. I go a few emails from guests telling me how much they enjoyed the show. Only 2 of my guest had even heard him before.

I have all of Flynns CD's but the new Acoustic Live.. is my favorite, it is SO good.. It is like a having a show in your living room (or basement)...

That Use Me Up.. song is an oldie but a goodie... I have to go look up the original singer on that one..and Flynn's new songs really are terrific.. what a treat to get first dibs on hearing them...

I borrowed a camera since my camera broke the other day, but I didn't really get any good shots. I have one video that "may" make it on youtube... but I'm so bummed I did not to get any better shots... (my 11 year old dropped my camera the day before the show.!!)..

Flynn and Antje Duvekot at Circle of Friends, Franklin, January 9

Sorry this write-up is so late in coming – it’s been a busy week.

We were lucky enough (Me, Maggie, all three kids, and one of Matt’s friends) to be at Circle of Friends in Franklin January 9 for the Flynn / Antje Duvekot show. It was just too close to home and the chance to see both of them comes along infrequently enough, that the Ellis show in Fall River lost out (though I heard through the grapevine that was not only an excellent show but is a superb venue). Anyway, Circle of Friends is also a great venue, and we were treated to a great show. And of course they had great food during the intermission...  Flynn’s guitar work was in great form (yes I am jealous) and both artists sounded great. We were able to hear “Thanks For The Roses” for probably the last time before she retires it until next winter….. Both artists come very highly recommended (even if they did each make a little Ellis Paul joke) – given his limited schedule if you get the chance to see Flynn – TAKE IT !

Flynn opened with:
Carousel
Emerald Dream
Desert Angel
Angels
The Answer’s Not Enough / Strange
Human
White

Antje’s set consisted of:
Scream
Ragdoll Princes and Junkyard Queens
The Queen and the Soldier (???) a Suzanne Vega song
Dublin Boys
They All Laughed – Gershwin
Long Way
Sex Bandaid
Lighthouse
That’s Me – a Paul Simon song (with Flynn)
Cobbler’s Daughter, a Kate Rusby song (with Flynn)
Dandelion
Jerusalem
One Breath (a new song in progress….)
Vertigo
Thanks For The Roses
Sweet Spot Of Your Life
Merry-Go-Round

Afterwards I had the chance to speak with Antje and then with Flynn, both of whom were very gracious. My eleven year old daughter was very impressed with Flynn’s guitar loops (“He’s cool,” she said) so I had to bend his ear about that subject for a few minutes.

 Added bonus – someone (I think the Sun Chronicle in Attleboro) had a reporter there working on a story about folk music and coffeehouses – I am watching for that.
