I love the sound of the host of this show...he just talked about Gurf Morlix connection to the music of Lucinda Williams and Mary Gauthier and that if Gurf says Sam baker has written some of the best songs since Mary Gauthier then it must be pretty good. He said Gurf knows his way around a good song. Playing Mary Gauthier right now.
Sam Baker from a local house concert coming up after the news.
Thanks Jela....this is so cool.

Gotta sign-off now and try to make it home. Nasty weather right now....which put the skids to my big night of planned Bill Deasy music tonight.

Jela...
Thanks for the feedback....
I tried the listen again link and.....still not sure I'm in the right place.
The show that came on starts out with a story about a caller to the radio program talking about scoring tickets to a Neil Young gig in Edinborough. The dj is happy for the caller, happy to have found tix. First song up is by Billy Bragg. Is this the show with the Sam Baker house concert on it?

Thanks Paddy.
At SXSW we tend to go see the artists that we might not get a chance to see in the UK and as Van Morrison tours here quite regularly we will miss him at SXSW.
Interestingly one of the best concerts I ever went to was a Van Morrison concert at the Dominion Theatre in London and then one of the most disappointing ones I've been to was a Van Morrison concert! Can't win them all I guess.

Morning Jela.....up early here with a cup of coffee.
Love it when email notifies of a new post on the forum.
Would have loved to see Van the man in his prime, or even these days so long as he was ON his game. I'd be miserable if when I finally got to see him in concert he was just okay. I can see how ya never know with an music icon like Van Morrison. He's all over the musical map, which is great I suppose, still, I'd love to see the man work his "magic" at least once.
I'd go for the promise of the lesser knowns anyday.....

On Sam Baker's website he has posted some photos of New Year's Eve 2007 at Club Passim - this first clip includes a short video of Ellis playing with a Budda like 'toy' and then if you then click on the link to Don Con there is another short clip of DC and EP talking to someone on the phone.
I recognise all the people in the shots apart from the blond haired lady - can anyone enlighten me?

Paddy, that's from this year's NotSXSW at Opal Divines - it was the only Sam show we didn't get to but three out of four isn't too shabby.
Saw Sam with a full band (Walt Wilkins and the Mystiqueros + Tina Mitchell Wilkins) on Saturday in Utrecht, Holland. I imagine a few people were wondering what he'd be like with a full band given the style of his songs but guess what - it really worked well and the crowd were very, very receptive. The full band treatment was brilliant on 'Psychic' and its clear to see that they really enjoy playing together.
Seeing him again this Saturday in the UK - speaking with him after the show on Saturday he said 'you'll be disappointed' because he's playing solo - huh there's no way this guy is going to dissappoint!
By the way the Holland trip was for the Blue Highways festival, an Americana festival, one day, two stages, 14 acts - it was fabulous.

Sam last night in the UK was his usual warm, funny and engaging self. Had front row seats although we didn't sit together 'cos I had nabbed a chair by putting my coat over it before the show but Richard hadn't.
Played two sets, to a virtual sell-out crowd - capacity 100, tickets sold 96. A real storyteller who had the audience in stitches - a really good vibe and loads queuing up in the interval and at the end to get CDs and posters signed/talk to him.
Driving home from the show, listening to our fave DJ Bob Harris on the radio - what should come over the airwaves but Sam Baker singing 'Odessa' what a great way to finish off a great evening.
Next time we'll see him will be at WoodyFest - can't wait.

We've been holding on to see what was happening on Tuesday in Tulsa - rest assured we wouldn't miss WoodyFest! I think it will be quite an emotional one following the death of Bob Childers. My memories of him will always be tied up with the first time I saw Ellis live - Newport RI August 2003 on the Ribbon of Highway, Endless Skyway tour. Bob Childers did the narration. I have a poster from that concert, signed by a few of the artists. Must look it out as I think Bob Childers signed it for me.
