Great show from Adam last night at Patti's Place. Played two long sets, a good three hours in total so a real range of songs including my favourite 'You Paint Me'. Very good choice of material; just him, a guitar and occasional harmonica.

One and a half years since I saw him open for Ellis at Passim, liked him then, like him even more now!

Thanks to Patti for hosting and great to see friends there too.

Can anyone tell me the title of the song about the soldier which preceded the song about the suicide bomber ?

I believe the song is just title Soldier.. well that is what is written on a scrappy piece of paper set list he left behind !!

It was a incredible evening of music. Adam just doesn't know when to stop  He was making a long drive that night so I felt kind of bad but he said he was inspired by having people really listen and enjoy his music. He pulled out some old gems. He said he knew people had to leave because of work in the morning but nobody left. !!

I have posted a few videos on youtube... search pttld or patti's place. I am happy to say the change in lighting we used help make my simple camera get decent enough videos. !!

thanks to patti for fulfilling my personal wish list of musicians. so far i've asked for flynn, doncon and adam. maybe i should ask her for u2 and see what happens.

Bonnie you have great taste in music, any more suggestions for me. :)
though I'm thinking I need to host a female singer soon.
Jela, the line is really starting to grow, glad you stepped in when you did :P

Beautiful Doom by Adam Ezra

Beautiful Doom by Adam Ezra available on his CD Chain

Chain is one of Adam's ealier CDs.... read the lyrics while listening to the video above. . I think it showcases his talent as a lyrist (?) or whatever good song writers are called... very clever and catchy sounding, yet still sincere..

Beautiful Doom

winter breeze on a summer day
hit the road and i run away
in a tail wind of blue and grey
streamin out on cue
read your sign like a caveat
i’ll take a look baby what you got
then i’ll cut line like a pistol shot
ringin like it do
and don’t you look away
cause i may be gone today
(chorus):
‘cause i’m going forward
on a rocket flight
gonna burn out bright
and you’re lookin over
to see if i can shoot that moon
to my beautiful doom

and i’m heady like a nursery rhyme
enigmatic like a five and dime
cut me open you can see it shine
delusion on the fool
but i’ll parade it like the stanley cup
the pied piper for the bottom up
knock on wood for a little luck
and that will see me through
and don’t you look away
‘cause i may be gone today
(chorus)

could be like cashin in a ten grand check
or starin at a ten car wreck
you never know what you’re gonna get
when the tragic chase the muse
it’s just my simple, vapid, little rhapsody
top heavy with some melody
smoothed over in a velvet key
to scintillate and soothe
and i won’t look away
‘cause i may be gone today
(chorus

i saw adam and the group on friday AND monday. what a treat!!

friday we went up to portland maine. it was a very last minute decision, so we got there about 10:45pm and were home by 4:00am. managed to pack some great music in there though!

they played a place called the empire dine and dance and it was a nice room with a varied crowd. some people came specifically for aeg but a lot just came to hear any music, and dance. those folks were really friendly and they all left as fans. i was standing next to someone who kept asking me about the band and telling me how great they are. then he bought a cd.

it was a very different vibe than patti's place. there was no sitting, and there was much head bopping on my part. they did a great version of playing for two. i love the intro anyway, but they seemed to be having even more fun than usual with all of that percussion. Burn brightly was amazing as usual. i always think of that as the gift that adam gives to the crowd. does that make sense?

monday was an unbelievable experience for any music lover. they were in a rehearsal space/recording studio in lowell ma. they were being filmed for alternate root tv. in addition to the videotaping, they also recorded the show. we were all given free reign of the recording room, the engineering room and the common areas. the recording room was tiny, not meant for lurkers, especially with the cameramen and equipment in there, but we managed. the hardest part was if you were in that room, there was no hooting and hollering at all and even worse, you had to hold your applause for 5 seconds after the song ended. that was TORTURE!! :P it was cool to watch the band in that room and then go watch them through the window behind them and see what was happening with all the equipment in the engineering room. after the music was done they set them up for interviews in another room and brought us all in to watch and ask questions.

they played for about an hour. they did all 3 of their new songs, taking off today, soldier and miss hallelujah. adam did soldier solo since they are waiting to debut the full band version at their big show at the paradise in september.

when adam sat to sing on miss h, he apologised for the hole in his pants. turtle mentioned he might want to consider patching them at which point ad got all animated. he reached into his back pocket and said "i played a show last week and someone gave me patches!!" while pulling out the iron on patches he got when he played patti's place!!

patti, your patches may not have helped the people still getting a view of his unmentionables, but they did give him some padding to sit on. :-D

Wow!

You must still be on a high from those experiences Bonnie. Do let us know when the Alt Root filming is posted on line (I'm assuming it will be available).

the iron would not have done him any good. the jeans went missing for a few days. adam being adam has been known to LOSE his pants. don't worry, he keeps a spare pair of khakis in the car just for that purpose.

i think we need to get him those little clip things that attach kids mittens to their coat. :P

After seeing Adam at Patti's on 15 August, I wrote a review and it will be published in Maverick's October 2010 issue which goes on sale later this month. It starts at the bottom of one page and continues overleaf so I've had to attach two files here.

Dean - hope you don't mind the mention!

Adam opened the show in Framingham tonight and then accompanied Ellis all evening.. such talent and wit on stage...always entertaining.. I have had one of Adam's song stuck in my head for weeks now.. so I asked him to play it and he did.. Adam is like that !! He wrote this song at least 10 years ago.. his lyrics, vocabulary, insight continue to amaze me..

Naive Little Me first appeared on his self titled Adam Ezra CD 2000 and also on View From the Root 2010..

Naive Little Me
from Adam Ezra (2000)

well i’d breath in your skin once the soap smell was gone
when we’d lie around the house with the radio on
but naive little me, oh the innocent fawn
never realized i had you on loan
if i could bottle that smell i could sustain this old smile
like a puff from the bowl it might numb me a while
i’d drink you like wine but all i’d taste is the bile
from the indifference i heard in your tone
don’t leave me here on my own
well you left with a fanfare a big ole’ parade
a scene at the palace, your impetuous slave
couldn’t keep his mouth shut even after forbade
for he dreamed of a seat at your throne
well this must have amused you, a jester was he
to dance in your presence desperate to see
just one glimpse in his eyes be it love or pity
but none such human a gesture was shown
don’t leave me here on my own
well i’d like to recall you as underworld bound
with cursed, virtuous pets you keep chained to the ground
a Hades spawned creature with snakes all around
turning all of your suitors to stone
and i’d like to believe i’ve escaped from your hold
fleeing misery, demonous tortures untold
ah but if i could tame you the treasures behold
will remain to me ever unknown
don’t leave me here on my own
well my talent is wasted, my wit’s unresolved
i’ve doubled my ante, i’ve scratched and i’ve clawed
and i’m battered and beaten like some back alley dog
made of nothing but skin and bones
so i’ll write down a letter, i’ll sing and i’ll pray
and it will help to console me in some self indulged way
so fuck you my darling, i’ll see you someday
when a sturdier heart i have grown
cause you left me here on my own
