George Carlin died last night at a hospital in Santa Monica, Ca.

What a comedian. What an artist. What a loss.

His role as a cabbie in the movie Car Wash always made me laugh as he rode around LA in his cab looking for a tall black blonde chick who had stiffed him for the fare.

The Day The Laughter Died

Everyone has a talent that they possess and a talent they admire and although I'm a musician, the rock stars in my world are comedians. From the legends that have passed like Lenny Bruce, Sam Kinison, and Richard Pryor. The living legends like Don Rickles, Bill Cosby, Steve Martin, and Richard Lewis and the future hall of famers like Doug Stanhope, Lewis Black, Brian Regan, and Dave Attell. I've listened to their albums countless times in awe of their work. I think to myself how amazing it must be to lock onto an audience and give them gift of laughter. I don't believe in many things that I can't see, smell, touch, or f###. But I do believe that laughter can heal. I've always dealt with pain in my life with laughter.

But in my lifetime we've lost some greats like Bill Hicks, Mitch Hedberg, and Richard Jeni. And there's something that really hits you when you lose those people that have brought you so much laughter. Today we lost one of the absolute kings. George Carlin. George, or as he put it the guy with the name that just kept going G-E-O-R… G-E… O-R…G-E-O-R…G-E-O… R-G-E… It doesn't matter what profession you choose, but you can't help but admire his work. He was brilliantly funny and original. He had a huge hand in changing the audience for stand-up comedians with his HBO specials. He was the most consistent stand-up comedian of all time. He made you laugh and he made you think. He never changed his act and he kept on going. Even after he lost his beloved wife from cancer, he just kept working. The man was a machine.

He checked into the hospital for chest pains and died hours later. This is one of the biggest losses of all because if he had survived the material would have been priceless.

These are the 7 dirty words…

Did you hear? George Carlin died today.
