Drink Another Round over on track 8
Don Conoscenti's Drink Another Round leads off this week's SOTW as Ellis takes us inside the third real life bar in a triad that began inside Eddie's Attic with All Things Being the Same. From there he took us north, to Alaska, to Alice's Champagne Palace. Enjoy Don's offer to pick up the tab as we saddle up to to the bar down at Miller's Place.
Welcome to Miller's Bar, Sometime, Someplace
Empty glass on the table
She's a Buddha with a bottle
there's a devil in her grin
"Mr. Paul if you're able,
to find someone to take you home,
I would fill you up again."
Yea, I came here for somebody,
but I fell for the bar
It's got mahogany tables
whittled and carved
There's a fiddle in the corner
singing sorrow to the night
makes me forget about tomorrow
cause tonight I'm alright
Sometime, Someplace
I'll meet somebody
this clown can fall for anybody
Sometime, Someplace
but tonight
I'm getting cozy at the bar
down at Miller's place
There's a ghost of a rock star
blowing his horn in the corner
where the fiddle player sways
there's a crowd at the front bar
all the locals and the cronies
talking about their sugar days
Tell me gypsy fortunes
lie about the rain
I love the way
the bartender whispers my name
I want to stand up on a barstool
and shout out to the night
"I don't need a love forever
I just need some tonight"
So when the lights go down
If you're lonely you can know me
We'll pick up one last round
If you know me if you're lonely
Sometime, Someplace
I'll meet somebody
this clown can fall for anybody
Sometime, Someplace
but tonight
I'm getting cozy at the bar
down at Miller's place
The lights come up
I watch your face
Sometimes your eyes
Come and look at me
Sometime, Someplace
First let me say that all the songs on the new release with the possible exception of Heaven's Wherever You Are were instantly enjoyed but for some reason this one jumped out at me and said hold on there a minute paddy....she's a rocker, baby, she's a rocker. I love it when Ellis rocks. Like the way I do. He's done it on several offerings, in places, and it just reminds me that Ellis is, I think, at heart, a rocker.
It would make a great music video. Pass the Mexican Hat
One day Pam and I were out sans kids able to crank music and this one got some serious discussion about just what is going on at this bar. It revolved around Ellis as we know him, and it revolved around just who the girl in the story is. Who, at what point, is saying what? That was last summer, not long after we got our copy of The Day After Everything Changed aboard the now legendary Boston Harbor Booze Cruise.
Some of the finer points we had that day have surely drifted into the nether regions of my musical musings mind so I'll do my best to recount some of the finer points. Can't do it now. The bar's still open. Will wait til it's long past last call. For now a look back at an Ellis Paul weekend in Pittsburgh for two shows. Club Cafe Saturday. House Concert Sunday.
Together with Karen, Sue Ellen, Dean and Elaine, we sat with Ellis and Bob Ephlin of Eddie's Attic one night after Ellis' show at Club Cafe in Pittsburgh. We were honored to join in on a late night bite and bevearge at a nearby eatery. Hofbraus, a German themed restaurant. Nice place, a bit on the loud side. LIVE BAND. We lucked into a quiet and cozy outdoor patio table. One thing's for certain. Ellis wrote a new song about a place he surely knows well. An adopted hometown bar. Miller's Place. Charlottesville, Va. Drink another round. It's on me...

hmm..Paddy sometimes you lose me.. but then again sometimes not
I know there is some history about the ghost in the corner and Dave Matthew's band mate. That is classic Ellis incorporating his new surroundings into a song and is rathe specific but yet the title of the song lends itself to being anywhere... I like the rocker sound too. Also like the self referral to "Mr. Paul" and well then he calls himself a clown...nobody should take themselves too seriously

I couldn't tell if the girl was the bartender at Miller's Place or perhaps a drunken patron, Maybe Ellis, giving voice and life to a logo upon a bottle in front of him. Mighta been St. Paulie's Girl. Is she the one who came in for somebody, then fell for the bar. Stayed. She's tellin her story.

I think it is the bartender and as long as you have a safe way to get home you can drink all you want.
Bartenders have pretty much seen and heard everything..
especially on a day like today. The day it is okay to drink...lots..

Keep in mind the question came while driving around on a gorgeous sunny day much like today and sans lyrics sheet to reference as we have here today. Leave it to Mr. Paul to show but not tell.
