The Ark - Ann Arbor - October 19, 2007

Postby AndaleOrbea » Mon Nov 05, 2007 4:07 pm

Here’s a story from the EP show in Ann Arbor, MI on October 19, 2007.

Ellis introduced and began singing Million Chameleon March (you know, baby’s first protest song). When right after he started the verse about Sally the Chameleon and how she dreamed a scheme, a shot rang out. I think most of us in the theater thought it might have been a small caliber gunshot. Perhaps the Secret Service had caught wind of EP’s radical thinking about demanding change in Washington? But Ellis kept right on going. When there was a small break in the song, he did mention he was sure he’d just been shot. Always the professional, and advocate for change! Thank you for a great show Ellis!

Thank you for the set list (s), and the story. But was everything okay?
"...I implore you, I entreat you, I challenge you to speak with conviction, to say what you believe, in a manner that bespeaks the determination with which you believe it, because contrary to the wisdom of the bumper sticker, it is not enough these days to "question" authority, you have to speak with it, too."

Everything was fine - nothing to worry about. It was just a noise back stage that made for an interesting moment at the show. I hope the story didn't alarm anyone.

AndraleOrbea,

Thanks for the report and welcome to the board! In case you haven't noticed, we have a terrific online community here. :)

That story did give me a fright! Thanks for letting us know is was just a clumsy stage hand. ;)

Please jump in on some other threads....like maybe the "Get to know you survey" (from the Say Something forum) linked below. We love hearing folks' Ellis Paul stories. ;)

"Some people are born to make great art and others are born to appreciate it. It is a kind of talent in itself, to be an audience, whether you are the spectator in the gallery or you are listening to the voice of the world's greatest soprano. Not everyone can be the artist. There have to be those who witness the art, who love and appreciate what they have been privileged to see." -- Ann Patchett in Bel Canto.
