"Some people are born to make great art and others are born to appreciate it. It is a kind of talent in itself, to be an audience, whether you are the spectator in the gallery or you are listening to the voice of the world's greatest soprano. Not everyone can be the artist. There have to be those who witness the art, who love and appreciate what they have been privileged to see." -- Ann Patchett in Bel Canto.

Folks,
The Club Cafe show - Flynn's Pittsburgh debut - was terrific. I was a little worried about attendance being that it was a Thursday night, but am happy to report that there was a full house. The audience was incredibly receptive and attentive - just how I like it!
Flynn setlist:
the answer's not enough
emerald dream (devil on Grafton St. story/intro)
an american wake
human (cher story/intro)
be careful what you wish for ("rock star" story/intro. I especially liked Flynn's comment that he, Ellis and Antje "laughed themselves stupid" writing the song on a long drive up to Presque Isle, Maine).
Ellis playlist:
once upon a summertime (on piano)
Maria's beautiful mess
the day everything changed
jukebox on my grave
alice's champagne place
3000 miles
The Hurt (although still untitled officially)
blacktop train (unplugged with Flynn)
Home (on piano)
million chameleon march
cotton's burning (my current favorite)
sweet mistakes
the world ain't slowing down
take all the sky you need
Encore (with Flynn):
let it be
Earlier in the morning Ellis did his first childrens' show at the WYEP broadcast center. It was an Ellis Paul show like I've never seen before.
Ellis playlist:
the zoo song
wabi-sabi
because it's there
the cat came back
road trip
car, car (Woody Guthrie)
the swing song
hokey pokey
the bed song
dragonfly races
this land is your land (Woody Guthrie)
I lost a day to the rain
The kids had a grand time dancing and singing along. Several photo ops took place afterwards and Ellis sent each child home with a picture of Dusty to color and a box of Crayola crayons. Fun, fun, fun.
