What a great Birthday Gift...
My sweetheart Daughter took me out to see Ellis Paul at One Longfellow Square last night on my B-day... ! An absolute surprise until we walked up to the door and I saw who was playing.
Thank You Michelle.
We have long been followers of Ellis' music, he really talks to you through verse, poetry and a great mix of humor. There is a deep passion in his music that comes through in both subtle and strong lyrics. The consummate Singer, Songwriter in the Folk tradition, touches your heart and makes you think. Good stuff.
Ellis Paul always sounds excellent but this night his very distinctive voice and amazing guitar work and piano have never sounded better.
Thank you for a truly great memory Michelle, that was wonderful.
I Love You,
Dad

Robert,
Happy Belated Birthday! Sounds like the best way to celebrate.

"Some people are born to make great art and others are born to appreciate it. It is a kind of talent in itself, to be an audience, whether you are the spectator in the gallery or you are listening to the voice of the world's greatest soprano. Not everyone can be the artist. There have to be those who witness the art, who love and appreciate what they have been privileged to see." -- Ann Patchett in Bel Canto.

That would be me...
Ellis asked if we were having an After Christmas Birthday convention when he found out about the others... funny as it gets and yes, a perfect show.
Cheers,
Rob

Robert forgot to mention that when Ellis called the birhtday folk up to the stage he tried to hide behind the curtain!
It was a great show, Really nice to have Ellis alone on stage for a change, no opening act, no others with him, just Ellis.
I didn't write down a set list....
but here is what I remember, not necessarily in the right order...
Rose Tattoo
The Lights of Vegas
Hurricane Angel
Once Upon a Summertime
Maria's Beautiful Mess
Snow in Austin
Little Wood Guitar
Take all the Sky You need
The Night the Lights Went Out on Christmas
Annalee
The Day After Ecverything Changed
Jukebox on my Grave
Heaven's Wherever You Are
Blacktop Train
I think that was all of 'em.
During the Night the Lights went out on Christmas, Ellis had Robert and two other christmas time birthday people get up on stage so that the could hum Silent Night while he recied the poem.

Hey all,
I was also very honored to join Robert and (I believe her name was) Maggie, to be a part of "The Christmas Birthday Choir"!!! It was a ton of fun!
The show, of course, was amazing and I can't wait for the next time Ellis rolls into town!
I do have some pictures of Ellis and the choir...as well as a video....I will post them here eventually....once I figure out how!
Happy New Year!
John
