Folkies,

I think I'm gonna be able to make it! :o Just trying to work out some logistics with Patti and Jela.....

passim has been raising money for new chairs. you can "buy" a chair for $51.00 and sit in it for that show. they also pass around a collection basket during breaks in the shows.

they need 125 total. by the end of the ellis halloween shows they had something like 89.

as a volunteer, i don't think i am going to enjoy stacking them after shows. as an attendee, my bum is sighing with relief.

i have been listening to mike clem's cd nonstop. it is just so funny. his lyrics are so dry and sarcastic. just my kind of humor.

maybe adam will have his own show that week. i am pretty booked up though* so he should check my availability first. :P

* ellis and friends in maine plus the 4 shows at passim plus the possibility of a patti's place show and a volunteer spot for stephen kellogg. i don't know, that's 7 shows in 7 days. when will i find time for my job?

Hey All-

I just want to let you all know that I decided to take care of the injury part of my new year early this year. I stepped off a curb and pulled a muscle in my calf. I am now the proud owner of a pair of crutches!

So hopefully come NYE I will be all set!

Karen and Sue Ellen, very excited that you both will be attending!

Yippee!

Hello! Long time no talk. :-P Mike and I will be at the 12/30 show again this year. 10pm at table 15, I think.
The new cd is on constant repeat in my car! Mike noticed that Annalee sounds a bit like Welcome Home to Maine. Has there been any discussion of that on the board? I'm waaaaay too far behind to to get caught up on my own... so what have I missed??

Hope everyone is doing well. :)

Hi Katie - there are quite a few of us from the board who will be at the shows, jetting in and driving from all over, so look forward to meeting you on the 30th.

No we haven't yet started discussing the new CD...perhaps we will in the New Year?

Folks,

There was some discussion in the thread started in the Breakin' Through the Radio Forum about the new CD when the fundraisers received their copy.....but how 'bout if we resurrect the Song of the Week after the CD's official release date in January?

You left out all the great banter about Ellis's mother :)

It was a great show. The band sounded a little rough on Lights of Vegas, but after that they were generally superb. Mike Clem was very funny and a great addition to the band (along with his bass). The covers were well done (DonCon mimicking Michael was hilarious...). Obviously the new CD received a lot of attention. Walking After Midnight sounded very full with the whole group doing it.

Seth Glier opened, and was a real gem. His vocals were a lot of James Blunt with a little bit of David Gray thrown in. Very smart lyrics. I think he is someone to watch.

I'll be back at the late show tomorrow night. For what it is worth, I have two extra tickets to the 10 PM show - if anyone needs them please ping me through here. Also, as often happens at Passim shows, there were a handful of seats opened up just before the 7 PM show tonight. Not certain that will happen tomorrow, but it often does....

Hi all

It's looking like I might be stuck in Maine working. Won't have the official word until noonish, but if you or anyone you know needs a ticket to either of tonight's shows (I have only one for each, but they're prime spots), send me a PM through here.

I'll update later....

Dean, thanks for the update, you devotee, you! Hi to Elaine and the gang as we sit chillin in snowy Ohio mending self induced glute aches.

Jeff, thanks for your words on the show and the offer of tix ~ let's see, if I don't shower, and sneak out now, I could probably make it. Course, I would need a note from Ellis explaining things to Pam. Decide....

Lauren, in this economy, I'd say it's a good thing! Wish I could lighten your ticket load, I'm sure some lucky guy or gal will. Good to cya!

New Year's Eve, 10:00 PM Show

Every year my absolute favorite show – the 10:00 PM New Year’s Eve show at Passim. Once again we had an experience (and it really is an “experience,” not just a show) that celebrated great music and great friends. The band had a tremendous amount of energy and was much tighter than last night’s show.

Flynn, as always, was a treat as the opener. I’ll apologize right away for getting two of these titles wrong I suspect (can someone help me out ? Bonnie ?)

Wouldn’t Want It Any Other Way ???
Emerald Dreams
Desert Angel ???
Angels (a Robbie Williams song, with Rad)
The Answer’s Not Enough / Strange (with DonCon)
White Horses (with Ellis)
Human

Ellis then opened with a pair of songs by himself on piano
Once Upon A Summertime (my son will be disappointed since he had looked for that song on Wednesday night….)
Home

The band then joined him for the following numbers:
Lights of Vegas
Maria’s Beautiful Mess
Rose Tattoo
Alice’s Champagne Palace
I’ll Be There (Michael Jackson cover)
She’s Gone (Hall and Oates cover)
Auld Lang Syne
Walking After Midnight / Change
Take All the Sky You Need
Annalee
Dragonfly
Hurricane Angel
Snow in Austin (with Antje Duvekot)
Black Top Train (with Flynn)
World Ain’t Slowing Down
3000 Miles
Don’t Stop Believing (Journey cover)

Lots of fun last night.. it's been a long time since I went to a NYE show!!
A quick google search of the last song of the night from Journey and this is what I found...
Journey's "Don't Stop Believin' " has become the "Most Downloaded Song" ever in music history to date! Congratulations to the band, the fans and everyone ...

Covers of Steve Perry, Michael Jackson, Hall and Oats...
Can't wait to see some of these songs on youtube.. :D

Was Ellis doing cocaine or speed last night? The music was rockin but he seemed frantic and driven (couldn't get the coat off fast enough, turned it inside out, couldn't get the cuffs open fast enough, told the others to shutup, drove that set like a runaway semi....) Was he mad at Mike, never giving him any solo time?

hey cass, welcome to the board! :D

all i know is ellis was sweating up a storm onstage and that's probably why he was in a rush to get the jacket off. i appreciate him not taking time away from the show to be neat and fold things. :P

as for the rest? he always tells them to shut up. they fight like brothers every new years.

i'll get to my review once everything settles. for now i am off to eat some leftovers from veggie planet. yum!

What??? I thought the coat valet guy from the DVD had a permanent gig following Ellis around the country grabbing that jacket at a moment's notice. What a slacker that guy became. I'm having my people (my mom) call his people (his mom) to iron out the wrinkles.

Welcome aboard, Cass. :D

Other interesting (or not...) tidbits from last night's late show.

The Silly String Band (and by popular acclaim, I think they have just been nanmed) was outstanding. Especially on the covers.......

Silly String doesn't stink. It smells so foul that we need to use different and more expressive words than stink. Reeks. Malodorous fetidness. Rank. Loatchsome stench.

I did not know that aerosol was a Gaelic word. Can't wait to use that at work.

It was nice to see Karen, Richard, Bonnie, Susan, and lots of other folks from the board there.

Susan (cast and all) was careful to sit so that her head was as far as possible from my elbow this year. Smart girl.

It should be mandatory that Flynn opens for Ellis every New Year's Eve.

I really thought Ellis did a mavelous job, tons of energy, and I'm sure that had a lot to do with him moving the songs along so quickly. I know in years past and at other shows he spends more time talking to the audience, and yet I'm glad he and the boys put together so many songs for us to enjoy. It was easy to see that they were really serious about their practices, and each and every song sounded better from show to show, with the 10pm NYE show being outstanding. I noticed his twitter said they had a lot to drink last night. I thought Clem was really funny and enjoyed his parts in the cover songs and it was nice to have him open for Ellis at the 10 pm show on 12/30. I think he was a great addition to the event.

Flynn and Don playing together was a sight to behold and really a wonderful experience to witness. What a really fun couple of days.

I'm grateful to see so many of my Ellis Paul friends this weekend. It is truly grand to get to know so many wonderful people who have become my friends. Special thanks to KarenZ for all she does. I know Ellis thanked her last night at the late show, that was really touching.

Thank you so much KarenZ for all you do, not only for Ellis, but his fans. You are such a gift to all of us.

Yes Flynn was fantastic last night...The first song he played he originally called Carousel...well that is what he called it in the youtube video below...but he did say it was subject to change

Thanks Sue for providing this from the house concert..
