Natick, MA - Jan. 25, 2008

Postby mm » Tue Jan 22, 2008 11:22 am

Who's going this weekend? I'm bringing two friends, one of whom came once before with me in November and called to say she'd love to see Ellis again. The other friend is already an EP fan but hasn't been in a while.

FRIDAY, it's Friday for the Natick show, not Saturday.

Sorry to originally post it wrong!

Monica,

Have fun and don't forget your camera! :)

Part of the fun for my friends and I is that we are each planning on wearing black boots and seeing what we surprise each other with in terms of the rest of our attire. Last time my friend Ann and I went to an Ellis show, we coincidentally wore almost the identical shirt, pants, scarf, etc. So we're testing our karmic outfit matching abilities and see how we all do!

Any other black boot wearers are welcome!

And Karen, I will bring my camera and hope I get some good ones.

Okay.....have to jump in here.

We had a small family reunion of sorts over the summer. At one point several of us were outside, barefoot. We'd been snapping photos left and right so it was no surprise my wife started snapping photos of everyone's feet. I thought it silly at first although with digital cameras, why not?

Fast forward to Christmas...my wife took the time have the best of the family reunion photos professionally made into a hardbound photo album complete with captions. She ordered enough copies so that each family member rec'd one as a Christmas gift.

It was by far their favorite gift rec'd this year. And the highlight of the photo album -- you guessed it -- all those silly shots of bare feet.

So what I'm here to say is that this sounds like fun. Do your level best to take some photos of all those black boots. And if you have the time after the show, and ellis is wearing his black boots....see if you can get a group shot including ellis' boots.

I do have a shot of ellis' black boots onstage at Puck Live. :D

Will post them soon.

Great show last night! Not many of the usual suspects there and a more subdued feel in general in comparison to some other noteworthy venues, but very, very nice! Ellis is always in extremely fine voice and skill. Big smiles on stage and in the audience. It was held in a very nice middle school with comfy seats, acoustic panels on the wall, great sound, but must have had the heat turned down.

Ellis was a little late getting there as he'd missed a flight but was there in time to go on right after the opener, Laura Bullock. It was also his daughter Sofi's first birthday and he'd been hyped up on cake and ice cream prior to the flight problems. But it all worked out!

He did two sets, and I didn't take notes, but will try to dredge from memory what I can a little later. And yes, he was wearing black boots, as was our friend Rachel! So we got boot photos. And the outfit Karma reigned supreme as my friends and I all showed up in very similar black skirts and tops (though I had slightly cheated by asking the others at the very end on the way out the door). While we were probably overdressed, it was funny. I will attach photos later.

All us sleepy heads then headed home with great tunes a-jingling in our brains!

Here are some shots from the show. I was about the 8th row back and used my new zoom lens that I am still mastering the low-lighting, non-flash technique. The focus is a bit soft on most, but I'll aim for a front row next show!!

Okay...ha!....in regards to the boots shot, see if you can guess which black boots belong to Ellis. :)
For extra credit, see if you can guess which ones are my friends Sheila and Ann, which belong to Rachel (with Ellis' management), and which are mine. I'll post the photo that answers that tomorrow. :)

Thanks for the laugh mm with the last photo of all them boots.

I can only guess that the boots and blue jeans belong to ellis. :D

I appreciate the report and the photos are really great, too.

Nice photos Monica - thanks for posting.

Here's my wild guess on the boots front:

1. Rachel
2. Ellis
3. You
4. Ann
5. Susan

Monica,

Thanks for the report and the pix! :)

When I was in high school....and go-go boots were all the rage - am I giving my age away? ;) - I was never able to find a pair to fit over my thunder-calves. Sadly, even though Sam Baker says differently....some thing's DON'T change! No boots for me. :( But how about at the next Ellis Paul show in Ogunquit, we all sport flip-flops? :D Ooooh....gonna get me a pair of rhinestone flip-flops!.....hee....hee.....hee....

This could be us!

5. Sheila

Though we were freezing in front of the door hence the coats!

Karen, you just may have hit on something with the sandals.

Thanks for sharing "the rest of the story" :D

That's a great photo....glad to see ellis and rachel were in on the fun.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for Ogunquit. :D

But, I'll only wear rhinestone sandals if ellis does....

Just in case...men's size 10.

http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/flipflop.asp !!

Also, don't go the first Saturday in August, (like last time) cuz I knwo I can't make it!! :(

Patti

Thanks for the link to the woman's blog about the flip flops.

YIKES....those photos are NOT for the squeamish.

I often worry about the products marked "made in china."

But Karen, things change, they change a lot.

My sister has many pairs of lovely boots. Some of them come from plus size stores, and some from Payless, all with wider tops. For the woman with well endowed calves. :D
