As well as being an acclaimed songwriter, Ellis Paul is a working artist, illustrator, and cartoonist. He has drawn and designed logos, advertisements, album art work, political cartoons, painted furniture, inspirational art, teaching posters, books, and promotional art. He has designed the poster and tshirts for the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival for many years.
His illustrations are hand drawn irreverent designs that warmly pull the viewer into the essence of the subject.
His teaching posters on music, performance, and songwriting have sold in the thousands and on are display in music venues, writing rooms, and recording studios across the country.
Ellis has drawn and painted since he was a child. He drew a cartoon strip for the Heights, the campus newspaper at Boston College that parodied campus life in the 1980s. He believes that songs are very much like visual art in that they convey a story and emotion through imagery.
