Boston Herald on Ellis and Hall Pass

March 16, 2011

"Director Peter Farrelly has been friends with [Ellis' manager Ralph] Jaccodine since they both lived in Boston in the ’80s. Paul’s song “The World Ain’t Slowin’ Down” figured prominently in the Farrellys’ “Me, Myself & Irene,” and his “Sweet Mistakes” was heard in “Shallow Hal.”

“We think of Ellis anytime we have a new film,” said Tom Wolfe, the Farrelly brothers’ music -supervisor.

The Farrelly brothers, -natives of Rhode Island, make a point of supporting New England musicians.

“It’s definitely a big -favor from a friend,” said Jaccodine. Is this a Hollywood extravagance, figuratively throwing cash at a friend?

“No, it actually saved us the cost of a hiring a composer,” Wolfe said. “The Farrellys are, for some reason, reluctant to use composers. They feel it’s too contrived. So, Ellis, in a sense, scored the movie without knowing it.”"
